Watching various car videos tonight and got to wondering if anyone's added a HUD to their JL? Couldn't find anything with a cursory search, but someone has to have done it right? I wouldn't even really know where to begin with something like this. Off the top of my head I assume there would be different varieties. OBD2, GPS, app based, etc. Any suggestions on a starting point to kick off my research?

Like one of those ones that appear on the windshield?
I'm sure it's doable, but it's such a shallow dash it would probably be hard to pull off while looking good.

That's exactly what I mean, yeah.

Good point about the dash. If it was a low, flat unit that's out of the way wouldn't bother me, but all depends on how big it would end up being I guess. Just kinda curious as to what might be out there.

Along with the short dash, there’s the small, relatively upright windshield. Don’t see a practical way to add it.

That having been said, My wife’s Wagoneer has it and the Navigator before it did. I’m not really impressed with them. And it ads a very significant cost to replace the windshield for the one that has the special spot to reflect the HUD info.

I had them on several Corvettes. They were nice. Required a special windshield for a clear and bright display though a regular would work. My last corvette didn’t have HUD and at first I missed it but got over it.

I have this one in my JL. It replaces the speaker cover on the driver’s side and it attaches to the ODB2 port. I like it because it’s out of the way and looks OEM. The only negative for me so far is I can’t find the manual anywhere. Either it didn’t come with one or I threw it away. Either way, I can find it anywhere online. There’s some settings I’d like to adjust.

HUD is ok as long as you’re not wearing polarized sunglasses. My wife’s Lexus has HUD and my in car “transition” glasses do ok but sunglasses suck.

That'd be interesting for sure.
Only seen it on a few cars.
I remember my buddies Pontiac had back in 99.

My cousin's late-90s Pontiac had the same.

HUD just seems to be one of those baubles that never caught on. Had the consumer market expressed any real interest in the technology, and the OEMs made the collateral effort to refine it, there's no doubt that it would be pretty impressive 25 years later. That didn't come to pass.

HUD to me is a solution looking for a problem, sort of like curved TVs/Monitors or 3D TV glasses. Have used them all and can't find a good reason to want to use them. Then again, the campfire fart scene in Blazing Saddles makes me laugh, so I just may be too much of a simpleton to appreciate the finer things.

Anxious to hear y'all's thoughts after installing/using for a bit.

I had a HUD on a rental car once and it was of minimal use, tbh. I never use built-in navigation systems, and everything else was already readily visible.

HOWEVER

Where it really came in handy (I thought) was the blind-spot monitor. Whereas on the Jeep, you only get the indicator on the side-view mirrors, this had the indicator on the HUD, as well, which was super handy.

I saw something about this one having to splice into the can bus as well, is this accurate or does it just plug and play into obd2?

pfletch, I'm right there next to you.

With a plate of beans and cornbread.

-------------

I'd consider experimenting with the linked, JL-specific HUD accessory, but for the compulsory placement of PA's dual inspection stickers (safety and emissions) fouling the projected image. ?

If you live in a state that requires a registration or inspection sticker on the lower right corner of the windshield, you may want to take that into account.

And you gotta love that 80s/90s digital alarm clock display, that'll look awesome up in you line of sight.
