So I just test drove a JL Sahara for the first time and it started to sprinkle so I turned the windshield wipers on and all of the screens in the Jeep turned off... Turned the wipers off and everything came back on. Repeated turning on wipers and same thing. It's this a UConnect thing like I've been reading? I also test drove a 2018 Ram and it literally started smoking inside and I was like oh hell no. That do you think is up?

I had a 300 rental recently, and the UConnect restarted every couple minutes.

If I bought an FCA vehicle and it didn't have rampant electrical problems and random pieces falling off all the time, I'd be seriously concerned that they secretly sold out to the Chinese or something. 'Murica, baby! Or "Italia, bambino!" as the case may be.

Check the dimmer switch on the left. Its probably turned all the way down. Once the wipers are turned on, the headlights automatically turn on. Once you turn the wipers off, the headlights turn off.

I was wondering if it was something like this. The sales rep had no idea why it was happening

When you say "turned off" do you actually mean the screen lighting grew dim or turned off. I thinking along the same lines as Smudgynut in his last post.

I mean like the Nav screen and the speedometer screen turned off completely at the same time.

I just noticed this the other day when it started to rain. My dash/uconnect screen went darker once I turned on the wipers. I then noticed my headlights came on.

The 2 dials on the left by the lights. The one on the right will adjust the dash lights but it will also control if they automatically adjust when the lights come on. If you put it on the highest setting it will stay on full brightness all the time. If you do one notch lower than full it will dim everything when the lights come on and brighten when they are off.

I'd say normal behavior.... Scenario: Auto wipers when rain starts, lights go on when wipers come on, dash dims for night- time, lights on driving when lights come on. Dimmer switch affects brightness of dash depending on how you have it set.

I encountered a similar problem in an Audi car rented in Germany. Every time we drove into a darker tunnel, the speedo and other interior lights would fade to black, then turn on again upon exiting the tunnel. Basically the exact opposite of what you would want to happen.

Actually, that is exactly what you would want to happen! :

When in a tunnel it is best to have lights on !

Scenarios:

When vehicle headlights are on "Auto" and the vehicle light sensor senses sufficient outside darkness as it enters the tunnel, the vehicle will automatically turn on headlights and automatically dim interior dash instrument panel. When you exit tunnel into daylight brightness, the Light sensor turns off headlights and stops dimming interior dash lights.
