I may be submitting an order for a JLU sport with only options being the diesel and hard top. Being a diesel and Michigan, it can get pretty cold in the winter. Only thing I miss from the Sport would be remote start and the Cold Weather Group.

Is it possible to get an aftermarket remote start installed? Does the EcoDiesel have a warmup period before starting and does it have the option to turn on/off an elevated idle? Wasn't sure if a remote start would work with said features.

Good question, but doesn't the auto start come with convenience package? The cheaper one $595? I mean for the cost seems worth it where I live but just saying if I had to get an option that would be it.

There is a small pause before it kicks in the starter but not like old days waiting for light to go off.

But considering parts of Michigan got snow before we did cold weather would be hard to pass up! Seats and steering work really nice. :)

You're thinking the Sport S. I'm talking bare bones Sport. Same options on the Sport S (Hard Top, Diesel, Trailer Group) plus the Cold Weather and Convenience package comes out to about $4,700 price difference essentially for heated seats, remote start, heated steering wheel, power windows, door locks, and heated mirrors. Some may say that's totally worth it, I'm not so sure.

Oh ok, sorry then. Damn that is a huge amount of money for a warm seat! Engine and Transmission is worth the budget though so I would have given up the rest for the diesel so good call on that. Even with the fuel pump problems would not change having this engine.

You'll be able to get the remote start as an addon from the dealer after you purchase. I'd recommend going that route since it will conform with your warranty.

The Mopar kit I believe works in conjunction with power door locks so it’s something that cannot be added on to the Sport.

I guess I could be the Guinea pig lol

I mean to be fair you’re trying and there just isn’t a ton of topics on the Sport models, especially diesel Sports. The Sport club thread hasn’t been updated in years.

It’s not a deal breaker to run out and start it and run back in through the winter. I’d have to do that if it was a manual transmission anyways.

Factory power locks are required.

It's a no-brainer.
Sorry but it isn't a no brainer since the OP is going with a Sport with no power locks.

I was going to go just Sport since I was coming from all manual TJ. Then I tried actually reaching around through the front door to unlock and open the back door and it’s a pain in the ass….just saying…

We bought my twin daughters a new, very lightly-optioned "X", to share, when they got their licenses. My wife INSISTED on including power locks as a safety measure.

BTW, 16 year olds aren't as good at sharing a Jeep as you might think. :)

I looked at the install instructions, you will also need a dealer to flash the option, it's not a simple DIY project.

I bought this: https://www.amazon.com/Start-X-Starter-Wrangler-2018-2019-Install/dp/B07SYBJTVB/ref=sr_1_1?crid=13YXROMUTOVH5&keywords=Start-X+wrangler+jl&qid=1666717998&s=automotive&sprefix=start-x+wrangler+jl,automotive,157&sr=1-1

Super easy install (and...I'm ham-fisted), way cheaper than OEM, and flawless operation.

Works from the same distance as your key fob - 100 yards+ in my case. Factory power locks are required.
I've installed this type of kit on other cars...you can add remote locks to a non-power lock vehicle. You could even just add a power lock module without touching the doors, it would activate the aftermarket remote start. Of course these are very convoluted options when you could just shop around for a better price on a higher trim that at least has power locks.
