I had to resort back to using an aftermarket CB Antenna Mounting Bracket. I was using an antenna mounting provision that the Mopar Heavy Duty Spare Tire Mounting Support provides but unfortunately, the Mounting area is too thick/deep with material and can not accommodate the Firestik mounting hardware. The thick mounting area will not allow for significant thread engagement with the antenna cable stud and the antenna mast lug.

I knew this could be a problem and sure enough, I lost my 5 Foot Firestik II antenna, Quick Disconnect, Spring, and Lug, somewhere in the Red Creek Wash near Bloody Basin yesterday on a Jeep group run because of the low hanging tree branches in the wash. I was fortunate that I had spare parts available at home from previous installs to get me back on the air whild I order replacement parts for spares.

In the attached picture you can see the support bracket antenna mounting provision just to the left of the Girestik assembly.

On the Trail run, I was able hear some CB traffic on Ch. 16 and their traffic led me to believe they were a couple of off-roaders somewhere in the Bloody Basin/ Sheep Bridge areas. It appears that I am starting to hear more off-road CB radio traffic.

Oh, please ignore the dirt. It was raining off and on this morning so I'll wash my Jeep tomorrow morning.

I'm not a CB radio guy, but I do have a firestik antenna on my Mopar Heavy Duty bracket for my flag. They make a longer antenna stud, Model K-4A would that help you?

You mean this Firestik K4A doo hickey?

Not really, the stud is two threads shorter than the Walcott Radio cable stud that I am currently using. I'll be sticking to using the after-market for now.

Have you considered the Teraflex (4997192) or Rugged Ridge (11503.97) antenna mounts?

My Jeep is clean now and more presentable. I just washed it after the two Jeep Trail runs from last Tuesday and Friday.

Yes, obviously I have considered those two since I do have them. Went with the bracket as shown since it had a graphic of a Jeep as opposed to the Teraflex logo.

I totally agree with you as long it is not the day after but in my case it was two days after the last Jeep Trail run.

I should have taken some pictures from the Red Creek Wash run on Friday but I didn't get back home until about 8PM. Very long days. The next day I washed the underneath and after that chore it rain, then the sun came out and then it rain again and then it was way too hot to wash it. I waited until sunrise today and washed the rest of it.

In the picture of the antenna mount depicted in the Amazon item referenced in the link, whoever assembled the antenna assembly definitely does not know the difference between his dark body movement exit hole and a burnt biscuit.

Although, there is no cable affixed to the antenna assembly, that antenna assembly is incorrectly affixed to the mount. The antenna would be shorted out.

That illustration is a perfect example of one of many reasons why I will never do business with any Amazon reseller. All you're doing is dealing with a bunch of Einsteins that don't have a clue, inaddition to buying nothing but junk.

oddly, the Red Rock Wheelers that organize the Easter J**p Safari in Moab still insist on CB (even though most of the Trail Leaders and Tailgunners are using FRS/GMRS to communicate amongst themselves).
the official literature they distribute sadly demonstrates how out-of-touch the organizers are about radio.

Today I learned that some people still use CBs.

With the capability of FM for CB now, it is very possible that CB radio may see a resurgence in the use of CB radio, especially for Trail Comms. The FM CB signal does not have all the static like the old AM CB signal and may be a better communication tool than the cheap little FRS radios for off-road trail comm because the signal will propagate better over the terrain than an UHF FRS signal. The UHF signal essentially needs a visual line-of-sight to propagate

The old AM CB signal down-fall was the signal-to-noise-ratio was very poor and the signal-to-noise-ratio for the FM signal is going to be a whole lot better.

One negative factor for most CB users that it will require a radio to be hardwired and mounted in a vehicle however, the radio will be connected to an external antenna for better reception than using a little FRS with a poor antenna inside the vehicle.

As for Moab, it's very possible that the Jeep Safari organizers may be using the CB in the FM mode for better point-to-point communication for longer distance because of the uneven terrain conditions whereas the UHF signal would be a problem.

Isn't the range of FM CB even less than that of AM CB?
