Advice on lifting Jeep

I'm very inclined to believe this, and it's making me think seriously about just leaving this thing as is.

If you don't do any hard core off-roading you will be fine with a 2.5" lift and 35's. It's when you are on the trails with 35's and scraping and the guy in front of you rolls over that rock with ease on 40's makes you start second guessing your set up

Thanks again for all the advice. So from what I'm seeing, upgrading all 4 tires to 33"-35" is going to cost $1,000+, and then parts-wise, a minimal approach sounds like it might be <$500.

So does $1500 sound like a reasonable budget for something like this?

5 tires, don't forget the spare. Not sure what Willy's takeoff tires are running, but you should be able to get some money back selling them.

I wheel with a group of about 15 jeeps once a month. Just when I think I move up from the smallest jeep in the pack everyone else gets bigger. It's almost like everyone is 2 steps ahead of me lol..

Tell me about it. But it is just a tool. Ultimately, it is how much fun and good times you create with it. We just got back from a 10 day CO/UT trip and the guy with the smallest Jeep (JLU with 2" + 35s) had the best time. At the end of the day, that is what matters.

100% always have a good time, but I fell like I would have a better time on 37's lol. Doesn't really matter, it's already in my head so it's gonna happen wether the wife likes it or not

I am not the expert on this but I always cringe when someone says minimum approach. I would just do some research and watch that video someone mentioned. When your starting point is the minimum it will likely cost you more in the future. From personal experience

We all just like lifted jeeps, lol.

I highly recommend sticking with 17s, not only for cost, but for better off road performance and on-road ride.

Gonna need to up your budget if you want wheels.

For sure. I wasn't really looking at the wheels as much. I think I'm fine with 17". Isee a lot of builds with this "2.5" rough country suspension lift", has anyone else had any experience with that?

So RC has two available 2.5" lifts. Spring and spacer. They show a Rub/Non Rub option on the spring, so I'm not sure what actual lift you will get (if you look at a spring kit based on a Rubicon, you will get at least an extra inch out of it). Spacer lifts will net you exactly the lift amount of the spacer.

Note, with Willy's axles and stock wheels, you might need to run spacers on the wheels (maybe someone with a non-rubicon can confirm).

RC catches some flack for being cheap, but it's not like people who have it are having major issues.

Someone will always be bigger, you can “hard core” off road in a stock Jeep if the trail is hard for you. What you consider hard core on 35s is a light drive for the guy in a monster truck, it’s all relative. Look what this guy does in a stock sport.

Do what you like and disregard others options. Most Jeep guys are a little on the crazy side, but the average person can upgrade with a simple lift and bigger tires and never look back. You aren't planning on hitting crazy trails it sounds like anyways. If you end up changing and going down a rabbit hole you can always add. Most people can do plenty with 2"ish lift and 35's. No need to go bigger or get crazy with it when you are mostly on pavement.

$1500 or so is reasonable all in for new tires and take offs. If you are doing install yourself.
