In my other vehicles ACC is very smooth accelerating and decelerating. In my JL, if the car in front of me changes lanes, the Jeep kicks into full throttle almost redlining the rpms to fill the gap and then if a car switches into my lane it about puts me through the windshield with how abrupt the deceleration is. Hearing that other people have a good experience with it makes me wonder if mine does need to be calibrated. I just figured that all of them suck from the factory.
Do you have a lift kit or larger tires on yours?

Mine has the Advanced Safety package, and like others have said it is totally worth it just for the ACC. As for recalibration - yes it does need to be done when you have your windshield replaced. My windshield was replaced about a month ago and they had to recalibrate. It does seem to work better now as the recalibration did account for my current vehicle height due to the lift kit I installed las summer.
When we had our GG replaced, we just signed a waiver not to do the recal with Safelite. Saw no impact on ACC performance from the windshield replacement.

Yes, I do now but the experience I wrote about with the clunky full throttle acceleration and rapid deceleration was the same when it was stock.

Hi all. I've found a Jeep that checks all my boxes, including the most important - hydro blue. :) It has the extra box of the Advanced Safety 'feature'. I've had this on a Murano in the past and wasn't a fan.
Can this be turned off for the Jeep?
Also - if (when) the windshield needs replaced, how involved is the replacement? I've read here a bit about a calibration process that's needed.
The whole package sounds like a pain in the ass, but if it can be turned off or otherwise ignored, it won't be a dealbreaker for grabbing an otherwise super sweet Jeep.

Your thoughts and info welcome. Thank you!
You can turn just about everything off in the radio settings. Nothing needs to be calibrated for a windshield replacement; only if the FFCM needs replacement does it need calibration.

Also, safelite *does not* perform the calibration. When I saw them list that service on their website I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. They'll sure charge you for it, though.

By way of example, my wife's Honda has the full suite of driver aids. To be fair, their implementation and functioning have been pretty flawless. Only once in a blue moon will Lane Keep Assist vibrate the steering wheel when there's no need. That tends to occur when the lane markings haven't been properly maintained by the DOT. In that scenario, I can't fault the LKA functioning.

That said, I've zero interest in such nannies, and was glad to ensure their absence on my JLU factory order.

I have used the ACC function in my wife's vehicle on a few occasions. The only practical takeaway was that it highlights how poorly other drivers maintain their own speed. This causes a very annoying rubber band effect when following such pinheads with ACC activated. That informs our now-collective refusal to use that feature.

You can just use regular cruise control if you don't like the adaptive system. They're two different buttons on the steering wheel.

ACC is pretty good on the Jeep. Not the best I've used, but I'm very happy I got it anyway. The biggest complaint on my end is that when there's a car ahead that has already slowed down considerably for traffic, it will often wait way too long to identify it and slow down. But in the normal flow of traffic, it's very helpful.

You can independently turn off each individual safety feature in the center screen.

I'd add that to your list for your next dealership visit. It shouldn't be that aggressive.

If I this was the first implementation of ACC I'd experienced I'd probably think it was fine. But comparing it to my girlfriend's 2019 Subaru I will say that the Jeep version is distinctively more abrupt / less smooth. Like it's not planning as far ahead.

Not sure whether this is because of the hardware (Subaru's Eyesight system uses two cameras spaced about 18 inches apart to provide stereoscopic depth perception vs. the single camera plus lidar (I think) in the Jeep) or just more primitive software, or a bad tuning of the parameters, but, as an example, the Subaru system will seem to anticipate a car is moving into the lane ahead of you and gently drop back, whereas the Jeep system maintains full cruising speed until the car is actually merged and then hits the brakes abruptly.

I think the Subaru system probably saves gas over my manual throttle control, but I can probably get better mileage than the Jeep system because of all its abrupt throttle inputs.

I still find the system useful for long freeway trips and stop-and-go, and am glad I got it, but it's not the greatest one out there.
