Note to all its not a lot of cost to add and it transforms the way you interact with the vehicle. just get it!
I totally would have. It was not an option when I ordered mine as the order was placed just the day after the order banks opened. I was bummed to see that option appear a few weeks after my order was “locked”.

Oh well - I guess I need a new one with the proximity locks and I’ll just HAVE to get the diesel while i am at it.

Hello all, new owner of a 2018 jl Sahara I am also interested in doing this mod but have a little more knowledge to what exactly it entails. So the the proximity entry is run through the RF which is connected to the BCM ( this is the knowledge from my ram truck may be slightly different for the Jeep). To whom said the dealer or I think it was razer cannon program this that is correct I have found only a couple tools that can one of which I have it is called Alfaobd it does amazing things you can program/enable about anything again this was with my ram I’m not sure about my Jeep as I have not bought the bypass harness said softaware and obd is 130 dollars if you have an android device plus the price of a bypass. So for the proximity, you can actually make your own wiring so it doesn’t run to the BCM and only runs off the RF hub using the proper attenas and handles now as far as my harness that I installed in my truck it all handles or antennas were not needed for this function because they did not run to the bcm for a circuit no faults were given. I purchased my RAM kit through an outside source that does not currently have one for the Jeep but If connections are there then I’m almost positive that programming with alfaobd would be possible. Like I said I have just purchased my Jeep as of yesterday so have not been able to try any of this just trying to provide information to those who have more parts then me already. I hope this helps Also when programming you make need the 4 digit code from the dealer I’m not 100% sure since I had a stand alone harness.

We have a rubicon JLU and one of few options we did order is the proximity locks. Does anyone know if they can be added without to much trouble or expense. Asked dealer just got a vague look. Thanks
Oh, wait. Did you mean the electronic type?;) Maybe you just keep the doors unlocked at all times and add a similar "proximity security device" as featured in this picture.

Available on Amazon I hear.;)

Sorry Trevor, I say as a complement (I love animals, especially dogs) masked in satirical criticism, that pooch with her face in the air (and maybe I am entirely wrong) looks like he'd/she'd lick to death anyone who got near her.

Then again, he/she also looks like he's/she's protecting the presumably sleeping one: so I'd approach with caution.;):cwl:

Tad: in many "features" we opt out of lies the potential of us not having such things come to bite us in the behind: and I'm not necessarily talking about their MTBF (mean time between failure.)

I really hope this will not be a trend but I'm concerned over (as discussed here https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/jl-security-in-the-digital-age.17460/ ) people with the technology and lack of morals to steal vehciles pulling the front door handle, which will cause your proximity locked rig to send out a radio frequency ping, that your (nearby) key Fob responds to, and which is captured and recorded by such deviant technology.

Sure: the same thing happens when you press the crank button, but at least (for what little that's worth) maybe without proximity locks the thief first attracts some attention physically breaking into your rig and setting off its audible alarm.

;)And we all know how effective audible car alarms are at avoiding vehicle theft.;)

Editorial note: for all the potential problems and key Fob battery drainage such solutions might generate, maybe this ping based technology needs to reping the Fob periodically, (which I believe sends back different revolving security codes with response) and risk shutting down the vehicle (say if upon operator warning an optional user passcode isn't entered with some time frame) to prevent the thief who has secured both entry and crank, from getting far, stalling the rig in absence of same. Of course at the design meeting for same, FCA attorneys justifiable retort, "what if our disable technology strands a motorist in the middle of traffic, even a car thief, and in so doing possess risk to other innocent motorists"

It's a complex world we live in. A burglar who slips and falls in your home due to unforeseeable risk can sue you civilly and have a case, all while doing his/her time in prison.

Hey, do you have an alfaobd license to test?

Not possible. Been run to ground.

1. Need replacement door handles and jumpers, about $200 or so.
2. Need new door harnesses. About $100
3. JLUs at Sahara trim level and up already have antennas. Not sure on others.

That’s what you can do.

RF Hub controls functions of key fob - is set and programmed at factory. Replacements are programmed based on your VIN and its factory options. Not changeable. Joe from z-automotive went as far as buying another RF module an trying to program it. No luck. He went as far as you possibly could with it.

I got as far as adding rear jumper/handle, and confirming antennas (5) were present. I reached out to z-automotive then I stopped.

Don’t waste your money.

Only solution would have to be homemade and bypass RF hub. Not worth the effort for me.

I regret not getting this option.

Do they verify the VIN, or could we just order a hub using the VIN of Jeep with proximity sensors?

To my knowledge a hub is a hub it’s all in the programming so in theory you can have yours programmed and to whom had purchased everything there is still another step and that is enable and possibly “learn” the door handles to the rf hub I still have to had the time to measure for the security bypass to be made for these jeeps for the obd2 for alfaobd which can enable and learn the function which the dealer cannot do

Only way to make it work after adding all these components to have FCA add the sales code for it and then dealer has to reconfigure the vehicle. I just got done doing one. Not worth the hassle or cost.
