Since I bought my JL Rubicon in early June last year, I’ve had my eye on the ACE Engineering JL Rock Sliders. I like the look and I like that they are compatible with the factory rubicon rails and I like the price.

I held off for months, perhaps like other folks on the forum, due to reports of the potential for broken frame bolts during installation. However, the sliders went on sale at Thanksgiving and there were enough success stories to give me enough confidence to proceed, so I decided to pull the trigger. They arrived in late January (~8 weeks from order to delivery), when I opened one to prepare for installation, the packaging was sturdy and the sliders were well protected during shipping with spray in foam, however, the weld and paint quality was underwhelming in my opinion.
I took them to a local welder and paint shop, it’ll take several hundred dollars to refinish them, I’m guessing a little more than it would cost to ship them back to ACE.
I have not followed up with ACE yet, I’m hoping to hear thoughts from the forum — Is the quality below expectations, or am I being too critical?
