Since I bought my JL Rubicon in early June last year, I’ve had my eye on the ACE Engineering JL Rock Sliders. I like the look and I like that they are compatible with the factory rubicon rails and I like the price.

I held off for months, perhaps like other folks on the forum, due to reports of the potential for broken frame bolts during installation. However, the sliders went on sale at Thanksgiving and there were enough success stories to give me enough confidence to proceed, so I decided to pull the trigger. They arrived in late January (~8 weeks from order to delivery), when I opened one to prepare for installation, the packaging was sturdy and the sliders were well protected during shipping with spray in foam, however, the weld and paint quality was underwhelming in my opinion.

I took them to a local welder and paint shop, it’ll take several hundred dollars to refinish them, I’m guessing a little more than it would cost to ship them back to ACE.

I have not followed up with ACE yet, I’m hoping to hear thoughts from the forum — Is the quality below expectations, or am I being too critical?

I would have given Ace a chance to reply to your concerns before coming on the forum. That one weld does look a bit knotty and you should not be seeing rust-thru out of the box. That said, these are more functional than beauty slides. I keep touching mine up with Rustolium truck liner paint as required. Brand new, they should be perfect. Give Ace a chance to make it right.

@ACE Engineering

Contact Ace Engineering and they will send another set out and pay for the return shipping of the problematic ones.

Let Ace look at the pics and see what they think.. Pics can exaggerate things... so I'll not judge by your pic.

Ace is one of those companies that is there for the customer 110% .... and I am confident they will make it right.

I had a set of JL sliders delivered that looked excellent but there was a piece of slag floating around in one of the sliders... clang clang every time you moved the friggin driver's side, slider.

I did not install and called Ace up right away. They emailed me a return label and sent right out, another set of sliders which were aok.

All I had to do is call Ace and without any haggling they did the right thing.

I should mention that I have purchased sliders (3 sets) over the last 4 years and the build and finish on all sets was very good. Sure there can be an occasional bad weld, slag in a tube, a bad powder coat area... chitt happens. Again, Ace will make you whole on their dime if there is an issue.
