Ok jeez guys I won’t put the manual insert in my auto.

I had a better idea anyway. I always have people complimenting and admiring my badass angry eyes grille. Problem is my passengers can’t see it while inside the Jeep. Solution: custom etch of my angry eyes grille in the shifter insert. Try and make fun of me now suckers!
Nice troll but your profile pics reveals that's a lie, lmao

Would you guys make fun of me if I put the manual trans insert in my automatic shifter?
I like it. I can picture the thief trying to find the clutch so he can move the shifter, or maybe not bothering at all since he can't drive a "stick!"

Nice, I really like them, but the price is off putting. What if they were aluminum, would that Drive down the price?

I could see getting a set, filling the low spots with enamel or expoxy, then polishing the high areas.
The Chinese market will probably offer them eventually in some form or other ..400 is to much for a polished knob..... well at least sometimes.

Well, If I'm allowed to speak freely, which looks like some people feel we should blindly praise any sponsor and no free thinking comments that may shine the sponsor in a medium to dark light shall ever be allowed, then I would say they are way overpriced.

I would be interested for $20-$30 shipped. Aluminum would be better if it drives the price down ..

I'd be in at 150 for the custom design for both gearshift and transfer case. maybe even 200. but not 400...

So, I looked and it looks like $150 is the price all in for both shifters. I wonder what the true cost is on something like this. I am not asking you to share, but I am curious what method of printing yall are using for your stainless parts? Since you used the term 3d-printed I assume additive. I wonder if $150 seems high or reasonable. I have no idea. Also, I am curious if $400 is probably unnecessarily high if someone were to give yall a properly formatted design file that you would not have to significantly retool to get good results.

They are nice looking and stainless is pretty sweet.

Interesting thread. Until this came along, I had no idea you could use 3d printing technologies on stainless steel (or any steel for that matter) so I had to do a five minute side search digression on that. Pretty interesting. There are at least ten different ways to do it: https://all3dp.com/1/best-ways-to-3d-print-metal/ So I'm smarter than I was fifteen minutes ago. Good job.

My thoughts about the grousing about the price, since that seems to be where we're going with this now:

1. 400 was the first number mentioned in the thread, and is for a custom one-of logo. That's not the price for a standard insert, which is currently either 100 for the shifter only, or 150 for shifter and transfer case. I'm sure some folks have made this juxtaposition.

2. The price is competitive with other custom treatments for the shift knob. For instance, the "Speed Dawg" replacement shifters I bought were about 200 in american money; when you look, they seem cheaper than that at first, but then you realize you need the adapter kit and the transfer case knob also.

I mean, you could get a cheap plastic cover for about ten bucks. But that's not the same thing at all. Those have the same vibe as "Custom Build by Pep Boys" ?

Fact is, many folks are paying well in excess of 50 large for their JLs, so it's not uncommon to have a couple extra Franklins lying around to spend on purely cosmetic personalizations.
