You won't be able to turn on 40s without a fender chop, high clearance fender liners, trimming your rock rails and more offset wheels.

More wheel offset for sure, but I wouldn't guarantee the rest. The 39s work fine on metalcloak 3.5" with 1" of additional bump stop on top of the stock XR already extended bumps. They don't rub on the factory HD step rails. They just slightly rub on the inner fender liners up front. In the rear I just cut the bump out of the rear plastic liners and they don't rub at all.

I'm pretty sure the xr bump towers are 1.5" longer than stock so 2.5" total.

Lol...I have never measured the ones on my stock XR but it hits the bumps at the drop of the hat. The up-travel is horrible.

I am running 38s on the AEV 2.5" Dualsport lift. Actual lift was more than 3". This is on my V6, but it works and I like it. My 392 went a different route with a 3.5" custom lift, but only plan to run 37s as the V6 handles the more difficult trails.

I went with the regular springs, but upgraded to the 8100 shocks. It works really well.
