I have a 23 XR that is currently on 37's. I would like to go to 38's. Wheels are Kmc tank, -38 offset.

What lift without going insane with cost should I look into? Jeep is not my primary and only sees some off road as I have a can am to beat on..

Thnx

Rock Krawler, Metal Cloak or Clayton....all good lifts....wait for a good holiday sale and snag ya a deal. I have the 2.5" Rock Krawler on 37s.....I would suggest 3.5" if you want to go 38s. Mine is my daily driver so I couldn't get too crazy.

I agree with this but I would also throw in Teraflex . I run their Alpine RT3 kit with 40s and it just works well.

I have the MetalCloak 3.5” GameChanger, I run 37’s but could easily accommodate 38’s or even 40’s with the right wheel off set.

I like the 37’s with this lift because I have plenty of clearance under the belly, but plenty of took to stuff a tire so the articulation is wild.

Great looking Jeep.

I too plan to do this and I will most likely go with the Rock Krawler lift.

I can't decide if I want to bite the bullet an do 40s or 38s.

Either way, i'd have to do shocks, lift, steering, driveshafts and I don't wheel and it's my daily, so I may be fine with stock axles and RCVs.

You won't be able to turn on 40s without a fender chop, high clearance fender liners, trimming your rock rails and more offset wheels.

I dont really want to get into MC or RK cost. Again, I dont drive this thing much. Maybe 5k miles a year.

Do I have to buy new shocks if I go with a 3.5" lift?

We used the Mopar lift kit for Nitto trail grappler 38x13.5x17's.

Yes you will have to buy new shocks, im pretty sure.
When I looked into lifting mine, new shocks where a must.

i would think you could just add a small spacer if you have an XR

You already said that you don't really go on trails. You have an XR which sits a little taller than factory and currently running 37s and enjoying it. If you really have to have 38s and don't want to spend a lot, then either keep your current setup, but chop the fenders allowing the 38s to have more than enough room for your activities. Or, get the mopar lift lower control arms for the front and a 1" spacer under your springs. This will get you just a little bit more height, but still allow you to keep using the factory shocks. Either way will work for your purposes that you described. It makes no sense to put a large lift on to go up only one size from where you currently are.

Like others have said, fender chop and you can fit 38s without suspension mods. That was my plan, until last week when I was in Moab and realized there isn't enough up travel with the XR and I was bumping the stops too hard. Plan B is figuring out what lift I'm getting. Here is a picture of my Jeep with the left front stuffed. There is plenty of room for a 38" tire there.

I am running 38s on the AEV 2.5" Dualsport lift. Actual lift was more than 3". This is on my V6, but it works and I like it. My 392 went a different route with a 3.5" custom lift, but only plan to run 37s as the V6 handles the more difficult trails.
