I purchased a new Gates PCV valve for my 2019 JLUR. At 75K miles I figured it may be time to change it. The new Gates PCV valve came in so I tested it (be nice). Question is why does it allow air to be blown both ways? Should the valve not close one way but allow the gasses to pass only one way? What's it's purpose? The Mopar PCV valve I removed is the same way. The old school PCV valves that I remember allowed flow only one way. and if they rattled they were considered good Thanx in advance.

Just a different design. Modern day PCV valves are a lot different and oil vapor is constantly used as a “fuel” basically. Many modern crankcase ventilation systems are open loop like this.

It’s good that you put a new one in though, because there are internal differences and clearance near the camshaft differences that prevent too much oil vapor from entering the intake and causing pinging.

Thank you for the reply and explanation. It didn't register with me that it didn't act like the pcv valves of old.

Yeah. It’s all in the name of emissions/EPA. Chevy 4 cylinders have a really bizarre PCV setup and when it goes bad, it can cause all sorts of hard to diagnose issues. The first time I did a diag on one on a 1.4 Chevy Cruze it kicked my ass
