I might try Mobil 1 EP next oil change on the wrangler. Only because the base oil is supposed to be mostly Grade IV on the 0w20 version of it. Doubt I’ll notice a difference but Pennzoil ultra and Mobil 1 Ep usually go on sale for the same price
Try it?

Some people swear certain oils make their engines run smoother or quieter. Not going to cost me any extra to try another type of oil lol. Unless I’m missing something else from your vague reply

Not trying to step in the AMSOIL discussion about running it as long as possible. I run AMSOIL signature series because it is a very superior synthetic product and I change it when the Jeep tells me I’m around 10% oil life. I realize the oil at that point (and AMSOIL filter) still have life left, but I’m not in this to see how many miles I can squeeze out of 5 quarts of oil. I’m running AMSOIL and changing it as recommended to maximize protection and life of my 3.6. To me, top tier oil is cheap insurance. And their lookup guide makes it easy to find what you need. I run it in my wife’s Nissan and in my Ram 6.4 2500 as well.

AMSOIL Lookup Guide
I use it and the filters. Just did second oil and filter change. Have a little over 12000 miles and getting ready to change the diff fluid again (AMSOIL). I know it's way over kill but I want to monitor everything the first 20,000 miles. Being an x aviation mech, I have my reasons. I don't care about the cost or I would't have bought another jeep. Oil analysis is a great tool to head off potential problems. My JLR runs quiet and cool. Some oils are better than others period just like a Chevy is not a Porsche. The best form of flattery is when everyone compares their oil to yours. Has to be a reason.

I was wondering what you'd be looking for if you bought M1. I could never tell any difference in any major brand, unless changed viscosity or used oil analysis. Were you thinking of using an oil analysis?

That was an idea I was floating. Though with enough digging I’ve found some others that have done it. Each same to favour certain additive packages over another. I guess it depends who finds what more important. For me the temptation is around the higher quality base stock in the mobil 1 EP oil. We plan to keep this jeep for many years. I don’t think any high quality synthetic is miles above the rest and I’ve definitely seen some pretty high praise for both

Probably my ocd talking mostly lol

Well not to start an argument but technically it’s amsoil that goes out do their way to compare to others lol. I don’t see Pennzoil or Mobil 1 pushing out studies to prove theirs is better than Amsoil

I've been using M1 in every vehicle owned in the past 23 years. Past few years has been EP. I can't say anything bad about it.

Glad to hear. I’ve been running Mobil 1 truck and suv in my Durango for the last few years with no complaints

Well, Exxon Mobil is a major supplier of PAO base stocks to Amsoil, so there's that.

I like Pennzoil Platinum but one thing that bugs me is the very low flash point compared to others. Mobil 1 EP has one of the highest (0w20) and also one of the lowest pour points. I don't think I've seen an oil that performs as well as both ends, except maybe Amsoil, but again, their base stock in 0w20 is very likely made by Exxon Mobil.

I think they are all good but PAO can handle extreme temps better and there's lots of it in Mobil 1 EP 0w20. I'll probably never get close to the limits of any of them. But I like knowing they can perform there. On top of that, Mobil 1 has provided the cleanest valve trains at high mileage of any oils I've used. The 5w30 flavor held up beautifully to 10k mile oil change intervals for 160k miles in our Ford Transit Ecoboost. 10k with DI and twin turbos is a hard life. UOA's showed it in good shape with plenty of TBN left, so I know it could go longer. Rotella Gas Truck 5w30 had lower TBN after only 5k in that engine. And I think it is a very good oil, too.

I think Amsoil markets to enthusiasts and has avoided competing in the same square with the big boys.

I’ll have to refresh my memory a bit but I believe pennzoil ultra has a lower pour point then Mobil 1 EP, don’t remember for sure about the flash point. But they are comparable on those spectrums. It’s the PAO that has me interested in moving over. I believe what turned me off originally a few years back was the lack certification with chrysler, purely for a warranty aspect. But it seems that’s been resolved now.

I make sure to use 0w-20 and it has the ms-6395 rating. From what I’ve read you can’t get any better oil than that. The penzoil has a very high rating.

Not even close. GTL can't touch PAO for pour point. Neither can Group III. But it is certainly good enough and very low. Ultra is very good oil.

Mobil 1 EP 0w20 -62.5 degrees (F) pour point, 455 (F) flash point
60-70% PAO base according to Safety Data Sheet

Pennzoil UP 0w20 -54.4 (F) pour point 406.4 (F) flash point

Viscosity at 212 (F) is about the same with M1 at 8.6 and PUP at 8.8

PUP uses Gas to Liquid base stocks, which are excellent. In no way am I knocking PUP. I've used it and like it. In fact, I like GTL base stocks better than Group III, even though Group III tend to have a higher flash point. That said, PUP will handle anything these engines will throw at it, with ease.

I'd say PUP is my 2nd favorite oil behind M1 EP and is probably tied only by Havoline Pro DS, in my ranking. I like Pennzoil Platinum, too.

MS6395 is a low and easy standard. API's GF6 SP is much tougher. So is GM's Dexos rating. FCA's politics kept it from Mobil 1. But the politics have changed with Stellantis and M1 now has it. But it always easily met it.
