2022 JLU. 3.6. The Jeep spluttered and then died. It wouldn't restart. It would crank but not start for a few tries. Then in the instrument cluster, a countdown started. It was seen at 25 seconds. I'm not sure when it might have started before noticed. After the countdown was done, it restarted with no issues since.

I took it to O'Reilly's to test the battery and alternator (did the auxilary battery delete long ago). Both checked fine. Even though there was no CEL, I thought for sure there would be a stored code. There was no codes which is kind of baffling since it spluttered and died.

I've never heard of this countdown thing. But it restarted when it was done. Which that in itself would seem to have triggered some kind of code.

Any ideas at all?

Do you have a tazer installed? Sounds identical to what it does when it triggers a software reboot.

That's a weird one. The countdown makes me think it could be security related more than a battery issue. I'd try scanning it with Jscan since regular parts store scanners don't always pick up everything. Also double check your battery terminals and grounds just to rule out a loose connection. Hopefully it was just a one time glitch.

Starter protection mode? I’m not sure if Jeep does that or not, some brands do. How many times did you try to start it?

I did read there was a starter protection mode on the JLs. And that's probably the count down thing. It was several times of trying to start with a no start. So that probably explains that.

I've driven it alot since then, not even a stumble. I don't know. Maybe water in the fuel? I did reseat all the fuses and relays. Just seems something good to do periodically on these JLs.

I don't know but it hasn't happened since with plenty of driving. Hopefully it was a one off, but it was weird. I'm just confused there was no codes with the engine dying. Seems something would have triggered some kind of code, even if not accurate.

You weren’t really really close to being out of gas, were you? Or dangerously low on oil?
