Less luxury things. Bring back crank windows, small screen radio. Increase tow rating on 2 door. If I wanted heated/air cool seats, digital dash and all that other car things I would buy a Lexus SUV.

They had crank windows and 5" screens... nobody bought them. Half the guys who post these ideas, even back when they were available, didn't but them. They claimed to want a more basic Jeep and then bought loaded rubicons with SOT tops, seat heaters, and adaptive cruise. If it doesn't sell, why offer it?

Just like the people that say they would buy a Brown Manual Diesel Wagon that never sells.

Probably an unpopular opinion around here and I am late to the party and didn't read past page 1. Wranglers steer fine and people just don't know what to expect out of a solid axle vehicle that is pushed around by the wind.

2018 JLU Sport - Steers fine, it had a quite the bump induced shimmy and wobble somewhere between 30k-40k miles which went away once I replaced the tires. At 130k (I drove it just yesterday) you can tell suspension parts are worn out and you can feel vibration in the front through the steering wheel. I need to go through it and start replacing rubber because of normal wear and use. But even with the old loose suspension it steers fine.

2024 JL Willys - feels better than the 2018. At 30k no issues. And I have plowed this thing into holes and over curbs off the road at higher speeds than I probably should have.

2026 JL Rubicon 35's - Steers like the 2024 just taller and feels like stiffer suspension.

Do some people have real issues? Absolutely. But I think most of the complaints are from people who expect Wranglers to drive like every other IFS SUVs.

With all that being said IMO the Wrangler platform will garbage if they go IFS. While I currently have no plans to buy anything newer than a JL, I realize things change. But if they go IFS I would not buy another Wrangler.

As for the other items it's just more crap and comforts to make things more expensive. Add them as an option but don't force them on people that don't want them.

Just my .02 cents.
My 18 Sport 2 door rides and handles just fine on the highway, it's no Buick but for a Jeep it's much better thean the 97 TJ it replaced.

I searched through my pics and it seems pretty damn centered (at least to me).

The next time you sit in it, you will notice it, and your drive will never be the same. :CWL:

I guess I should have clarified... available to order. No dealer would stock a base unit unless there's a market for one.

I have to respectfully disagree about what you've said in your first paragraph. I started driving Wranglers at 16 yrs old and have had 2 YJ's, 2 TJ's, and a JK, (no gaps of time in between when a vehicle other than a Wrangler was driven) and none of them had the steering issues my JL has.

Adding options that nobody takes (or very few) only complicates the build process, add additional inventory requirements, and therefore increases production costs. The only way for that to make financial sense would be to pass those increased costs on to the few customers wanting that option. The take rate was low when the small screen and manual windows were cheaper, bringing them back with a significant up charge would likely insure that even fewer people take them, further driving that price up. Would you pay an extra $10k for a smaller screen and manual windows? Of course not, and neither would anyone else. Now it's an extra $20k for the 5 people who really hate screens. Should I order the illusion of simplicity or a 392 as the price is the same? Tough decision.

Hey, here's a whacky idea, how about lane keep assist, at least as an option?
They've had it on base Hyundai's for years, as well as all other cars that don't need it.

I am picturing a Wrangler with wandering steering that also has lane keep assist and thinking it would just bounce from one side of the lane to the other. It would be fun to see that on the road.

It wouldn't wander, that's the point of LKA. It corrects before it wanders. The better the system, the smoother the ride and the less drama. But of course, it adds to msrp. Maybe drop the blind spot monitoring, park sense, 18" Sahara wheels and all other useless things :)

That is unfortunate that you have issues. I am sure it's frustrating especially when you can't get a solid answer on how to fix it. My guess is dealers say it's normal, and forum post give you multiple solutions but nothing definitive.🤷‍♂️

I am just speaking from my own experience. JLs are the only Jeeps I have owned. I have driven both a 2 and 4 door JK for a bit but never daily for more than week or so. The rest of my solid front axle vehicle experience is in medium duty trucks (F650s and Internationals). The only difference I feel in the Jeeps is they get pushed around by wind a lot more.

Seriously, a lane keep assist only takes effect if you're riding the line of the lane, and it only bumps the steering if you're leaving the lane without correcting it yourself.
