They had crank windows and 5" screens... nobody bought them. Half the guys who post these ideas, even back when they were available, didn't but them. They claimed to want a more basic Jeep and then bought loaded rubicons with SOT tops, seat heaters, and adaptive cruise. If it doesn't sell, why offer it?

My 18 Sport 2 door rides and handles just fine on the highway, it's no Buick but for a Jeep it's much better thean the 97 TJ it replaced.

I guess I should have clarified... available to order. No dealer would stock a base unit unless there's a market for one.
I have to respectfully disagree about what you've said in your first paragraph. I started driving Wranglers at 16 yrs old and have had 2 YJ's, 2 TJ's, and a JK, (no gaps of time in between when a vehicle other than a Wrangler was driven) and none of them had the steering issues my JL has.
Adding options that nobody takes (or very few) only complicates the build process, add additional inventory requirements, and therefore increases production costs. The only way for that to make financial sense would be to pass those increased costs on to the few customers wanting that option. The take rate was low when the small screen and manual windows were cheaper, bringing them back with a significant up charge would likely insure that even fewer people take them, further driving that price up. Would you pay an extra $10k for a smaller screen and manual windows? Of course not, and neither would anyone else. Now it's an extra $20k for the 5 people who really hate screens. Should I order the illusion of simplicity or a 392 as the price is the same? Tough decision.
I am picturing a Wrangler with wandering steering that also has lane keep assist and thinking it would just bounce from one side of the lane to the other. It would be fun to see that on the road.
It wouldn't wander, that's the point of LKA. It corrects before it wanders. The better the system, the smoother the ride and the less drama. But of course, it adds to msrp. Maybe drop the blind spot monitoring, park sense, 18" Sahara wheels and all other useless things
That is unfortunate that you have issues. I am sure it's frustrating especially when you can't get a solid answer on how to fix it. My guess is dealers say it's normal, and forum post give you multiple solutions but nothing definitive.
