2 DOOR JL build/order discussions master thread

I worked with a local machine shop and came up with a 2 door trunk design. I contacted many of the security trunk providers and nobody had a trunk for the 2 door with the back seat in place. Most told me to check back in 6 months. The design I came up with is comprised of 3 pieces of 1/8" mild steel (11 gauge if I’m not mistaken - very stout). My design requires the center section to be removed to tumble the seat. Condensing it by 1 to 1.5" would allow for the seat to tumble, but I wanted the extra space. I used the existing floor anchors for mounting and used Rustoleum bed liner to coat it. The rear cubby is still accessible. I have automotive weatherstripping on order for the left/right gaps and the back edge.

I’m planning on removing the back seats altogether, but if I needed to keep my backseats, I would definitely want to copy your design. We sure need every cubic inch of usable storage space! This looks like an efficient solution.

This is exactly what my 2-door will look like!

Today I got to meet its 3.6 twin, which my dealer ordered when there was some uncertainty around 2.0 production. They’re identical down to the sill guards - only the engine will be different - and I love it! Needless to say, it wasn’t easy to walk away... But after test driving both the 3.6 and the 2.0, I decided to wait for the Turbo!

Hi y’all went up to crown king AZ this morning this is just 1hr or so north of Phoenix 5,800 feet elevation very long single trail and switch back road to a small mountain town. A lot of jeepers and side by sides I get a lot of looks with the JL 2 door and it being so new it was a Dusty fun trip there is also a back way in to is if you’re serious off-roader that takes hours to do.

As many others have said before me, Sting Gray does look different in different lights - it’s subtle but pretty cool.

That is a great shot, Alex. And I agree, all the colors seem to change based on light conditions. Can’t wait to see your real one!

Ya, very cool 800 pages. I think we received our JL Sport around 400 or so. Slowly picking up aftermarket items, one of which is seat covers which arrived last week. I purchased the canvas ones from Saddleman (made in the US) and they fit nicely with all the cut outs on top to move the seat forward and on the bottom to raise it up and down. Like the JL these seat covers took awhile to arrive. There were just no vehicles out there to model from, and they didn't want to do it off of just pictures. But I tried. They have even maintained the pocket in the back, but it is now canvas instead of the factory seat material.

I haven't checked their website again to see if the JL 2 door is listed but they definitely have a product, and it works.

It’s amazing I can’t wait for winter have the top off all the time in 60-70 degree weather here in Phoenix and then throw the top back on, put the snow boards on the rack and head for snow bowl north of flag staff!
My girl flys out from ks next Friday I’m either going to take her to Cali or go adventure up in the mountians here. I’m going to try and take my GoPro this time. It’s still in the 100’s here pretty hot hopefully another month and will be prime !
