Mountain Off-road makes a manually retracted step for < $150 that works for my wife getting in/out of my rubicon with 35’s and 2.5" lift. Easy install. Worth a look.
Correct: 315/70/R17’s. C rated
setup looks the same, but now running 2.5" rock Krawler springs, fox shocks, metal cloak control arms with drop brackets, Steer Smarts tie rods, draglink, and track bar. Ride is slightly better. Still very happy.
I don’t have a template to share but you could make the basic shape out of cardboard and have a fab shop bend it up. That’s essentially what I did.
If/when I make another one, I plan to incorporate the design idea where the back and top are hinged like the as yet to reach the market design...
Thank you for your kind words. I really like having secure storage in my Jeep. I’d make small changes if I did another one but this works fine.
Here it is with weatherstripping and thumbscrews. Excuse the dirt but it gets used. : )
Build a deck lid for the back.
I took cardboard templates to a machine shop and had 3 pieces formed in 11 gauge stainless. I painted with bed liner and used thumb screws so the one piece top/back is easily removed. Total cost was about $400. Definitely worth the piece of mind.
I have a 2 door Rubicon on C rated KO2’s. I went from a RC 2.5" spacer lift to Fox IPF 2.0’s, Rock Krawler springs, Metal Cloak LCA, EVO LCA drop brackets, Fox ATS steering stabilizer, and full SteerSmarts setup (track bar, draglink, tie rod assy). The SteerSmarts dampener wasn’t available...
I’m running Rock Krawler 2.5" springs with Fox 2.0 IPF shocks on a 2 door Rubicon and really happy with the ride and handling. It got rid of the choppiness on concrete highway sections, no nosedive, and a smooth controlled ride. Firm without being harsh. Better than factory in my opinion...
On a 2dr JLR with Rock Krawler 2.5" springs and Fox 2.0 IPF’s the ride is very nice. Controlled, no bucking on concrete highway sections, no nosediving on hard braking, very stable. I also installed EVO LCA drop brackets that obviously contributed to the improved ride characteristics.
I ran Old Man Emu (2008), and Rock Krawler with Rancho 9000’s (2014)on my JK’s. I like a smooth, compliant ride that is still capable off-road. I try to tune out NVH.
For my JL I’m running 2.5" Rock Krawler springs, Fox 2.0 shocks, Metal Cloak lower control arms and EVO LCA drop brackets...
Hey Arthur,
I have a 2 door Rubicon on 35"KO2’s. I have Rock Krawler 2.5" springs, Fox IPF 2.0 shocks, Steer Smarts track bar, tierod and drag link Assy, stock steering stabilizer, Metal Cloak front lower controlarms and EVO LCA drop brackets. Very happy with this setup.
I had Teraflex 4"...
I didn’t have death wobble just some steering wheel shake when hitting bumps with just 1 tire when going > 35 mph. I put Steer Smarts trackbar, tierod and draglink Assy on my 2 dr Rubi and no longer experience this. I ran without a steering stabilizer for 2 weeks. Today I installed my stock...
I have a 2 door JL Rubicon with Rock Krawler 2.5" springs with Fox IPF 2.0 shocks. I couldn’t agree more with the statement above. The ride is excellent: firm, controlled, yet smoother. Not harsh in any way. Very happy.
No spacers, stock wheels, 2.5" RC spacer lift, no rubbing. I just switched to 2.5" Rock Krawler springs, Fox shocks, SteerSmarts tie rod, drag link and track bar, MetalCloak lower control arms, and EVO LCA drop bracket. Very happy with the setup.
I wanted to weigh in on the issue. For reference I have a 2 door Rubicon with a 2.5" RC spacer lift with 35" C-rated BFG KO2’s
Other than the fact of being a lifted vehicle it drove very close to stock, perhaps a little more abrupt with expansion joints but overall I was fairly happy. Every...
Steersmarts recommends Fox ATS steering stabilizer if you feel the need to change, but recommended I try stock SS with SteerSmarts tierod, draglink and trackbar before ordering. They say their dampener bracket and steering stabilizer adapter bracket are required to install stock steering...
