Well, I'm somewhat encouraged by all this chat. My 2-Dr Sport S (Premium Soft Top) was ordered 1/8 with the VIN coming the very next week. I'm in PA (close to Ohio) so I'm hoping above all hope that I receive the jeep by early June.

The first and second week of April will be quite telling. Stay tuned everyone!

Interesting and yet, unsurprising. I wonder, what brought about that law?

Lobbyists, I am sure, selling what was best for the dealers and manufacturers

Been trying to order a 2-Door S Ocean Blue 3.6L V6 Automatic Trans JL with only the Premium Soft top for 3 weeks now. Should I be concerned the dealer is unable to provide a VON? Minneapolis, MN

Yes. Pretty sure you can get the VON instantly. I emailed my dealer two days after ordering and got a VIN/VON.

Dealers make big bucks selling cars, so they spent some of it to lobby for dealer only laws, etc.

The answer to this question is almost always who benefits the most, that is who is probably responsible.

I had my VIN literally within hours of ordering. You should be able to get it within a few days for sure .

Checked in with a local dealer today. Spoke to the sales manager and he showed me on his computer that he is only able to order the 2.0 L Turbo for his sales lot. He can order the six for a customer order, but not for his lot. Interesting. Looks like the first ones available to purchase without a special order will be the Turbos.

Then, again, this could change before the chair I was sitting in got cold. :)

That's B.S. I ordered my jeep on 2-16 and was undecided at the time which engine I should get. I was just about to order the turbo my salesman checked the box for turbo, but when I found out I also had to get the automatic then , I changed it back to the v6 , I absolutely wanted a manual.

That's B.S.
It's not B.S. Read what Quigley wrote. He's not saying his dealer can't order V6s. He's saying that FCA is only giving his dealer allocations for 2.0Ts on unsold orders. Sold customer orders can be V6's and likely any configuration.

This is not at all unusual. Manufacturers frequently limit allocations to dealers for specific models and builds.

I think you need to read the posts again, he said his dealer wouldn't let him order a turbo , the dealer was telling him turbo were reserved for his lot orders. which is B.S considering like I said I could have ordered a turbo back on 2-16 had I wanted to.
