Talked to my dealer today and he said I am D1 with a build date of either the 6th or 9th (can't remember which he said) and a ship date of April 13. I ordered a 2 door Sport S, Manual, Hard Top on December 18, 2017.

Nice! Only 4 months to receive a vehicle you ordered!

This does sound like a believable build time to me. With your order date you're probably one of the first 2 door orders, and your build wouldn't be delayed by certain options.

Not trying to bring everyone down but this sites tracking spreadsheet still has your build status as 'D'. The only 2 door JL in D1 (from the tracking sheet) is cedxc2005. Either your dealer has found a bit of inside info or they are estimating. I am hoping he found something.

I Ordered 2/5, was in 'D' almost immediately after ordering but after about 4 weeks it was changed back to 'C' and then back to 'D'.

C - tentative schedule
D - firm schedule: serial number is assigned.
D1 - gateline: plant has sequenced the unit for production, estimated ship date assigned
D2 - gateline: framing and build imminent, usually within 3-6 days

Anyone else have a 2 door build date?

There are a few sources being cited here for D1 status, but I only consider two to be definitive. They are the FCA tracking system that is used for the spreadsheet on this site and FCA's Priced Order Confirmation (POC) that records build status. Interestingly, they do not appear to use the same database. There have been many cases where D1 status has been reported on POC's but not the tracking system.

From what I've been able to infer, the tracking system appears to be based on a factory production data set, and the POCs on an sales data set. It further appears that D1 first gets assigned within the sales data set, but until the factory definitively picks up the build, it does not show up as D1 on the tracking system. I've seen it take more than a few days for them to sync up.

In my case, it was only a few days after D1 was assigned on the POC in February, that the factory made the decision to push back production into March and then April. As a result, I never showed up as D1 on in the tracking data.

At any rate, the POCs should be available to every buyer, emailed as a PDF, by just asking their dealer. I would be helpful if those, stating they've been informed of D1 status verbally by their dealer, could confirm with a written POC. That could give an indication of the scale and speed for the apparent ramp up to 2dr production.

Alas, getting a POC seems to rely on a responsive dealer....which mine is not.

That's true. It also should be noted that the sales people generally do not have direct access to POCs and have to get their new car sales manager to download it for them. I have a fairly non responsive sales person so I asked to speak to the manager and have been dealing with him directly ever since.

This should be reflected in the survey that you complete when you pickup the new vehicle.

How so? I was merely exaggerating since my build is the only 2 door on the tracking spreadsheet in D1 status. I'd like to think the spreadsheet is as accurate as we could hope (which isn't saying much). It should be a direct reflection of what FCA knows at the time.

The spreadsheet is as accurate as the source the information is obtained from. It is accurate at the time the information is collected. Some have been in D, gone to D1, and then been moved back to D. I hope this is not the case for you. I am just saying it can and has happened.

As follow-up, D1 means very little except that I have a VIN for easier tracking. Even after production starts, it's just a checkpoint (like all the other statuses).
