My 2020 JLUR 2.0T (29K miles) threw codes P0017 and P000A today. I cleared them out and they came back in less than a minute of idling. Runs rough at idle but seems to run fine/drive normally (in limited testing) with throttle.

Checked oil level (dipstick) and pressure (dash readout) and everything appears normal. Correct viscosity and changed routinely... appears clean. About 1500mi on this (full synthetic) change.

Visually looked over the CMP/CKP harnesses as well as I could see them without pulling things out of the bay, and didn't see any obvious issues.

Planning to order parts 68080819AD (CMP) and 4893746AA (CKP) as I'm hoping one is the culprit. I hate just throwing parts at issues but one or the other seems like a good place to start. I could test them, but they're not easy to get to and the parts aren't too expensive so I plan to just grab and swap (cam first).

I'm not finding much on these codes on this forum, so I assume this isn't a common issue on this engine. The factory warranty aged out a couple weeks ago and regardless, the nearest dealer is over an hour and a half away from my [remote] current location.

Am I missing anything obvious or are there other things I should look for that would cause these to be thrown together on this engine? If it skipped time or had an actual timing related issue, I don't believe it would run, at least not well as it does with throttle... however I'm not sure why it would have rough idle if it were just a sensor... unless that's the ECU trying to compensate in some way or perhaps VVT is acting up?

What Does the P0017 Code Mean? Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0017 stands for “Camshaft Position B – Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1).” Like P0016, this code indicates that your car's powertrain control module (PCM) detects a misalignment between the crankshaft and camshaft positions.

When your vehicle sets code P000A, it means the timing of this process is slower than expected by the vehicle's computer. “A” indicates that the problem involves the intake valves on Bank 1. The PCM (powertrain control module) monitors the camshaft's position as well as where its future position is supposed to be.

It’s very unlikely that the sensors will fix anything, and you need to do a cam-crank relearn after replacement anyway.

This is a warranty repair.

I didn't realize it had a separate 5Y/60K powertrain warranty and thought it was completely out of warranty. Makes it simple - appointment scheduled to drop it off next Wednesday.

I got a P0016 and believe it or not, the blue driver scanner suggested that someone reported that the fuel cap loose and just tightening it solved the problem. I refueled and did a few twists to the fuel cap and the code went away after the rescan. I got this code after seen the auto start/stop light come on.

Had a similar issue on my JK w/ a 3.6. Cam phaser or cam phaser solenoid was sticking and VVT wasn't operating correctly. Our 2.0 uses a similar solenoid/phaser setup for intake and exhaust cams.

Here’s the theory of operation for the two of them. At least, partially.

as it’s under warranty, it needs to go to the dealer.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Again, I didn't realize it was under warranty (I thought the powertrain warranty was 3Y/36K) so that's welcome information. I found out it's 5Y/60K after looking into it, and have an appointment at a dealer next Wednesday to drop it off.

I don’t envy the dealer that has to work on this. This kind of work truly sucks. Keep us updated if you can, thanks.

Dealer suspects bad cam actuators and ordered replacements (5048045AB). 1-2 days for them to arrive, not expecting an update until Monday.

I hope you’re prepared for a long wait.
They're saying the parts have shipped and are showing that they'll arrive Monday.

I don’t believe that will fix your problem.
They claim it is fixed, they've driven it a bit and codes haven't come back. Supposed to pick it up tomorrow.
