My vehicle 2.0t unlimited 61000 miles has a cold rattle start. Dealership says normal. So does the car come off the assembly line with this rattle? Is there a fix?

60K is the point at which ZF recommends a transmission fluid and filter change. This is at odds with the "lifetime fluid" nonsense printed in the Owner's Manual. My selling dealer refused to perform the service, leaning heavily on said language. I then purchased the necessary supplies and did the job myself, twice, in order to maximize the replacement of the old fluid (the system capacity is 9.5 quarts, but only 5.5 quarts will drain out when the pan is removed.)I'm taking it in this week for a tune up or 60,000 maintenance.

You might consider asking your dealer what they'd charge for that particular service, just to see how they respond.
P.S. -- At 60K, the vehicle will be due for its second air filter replacement.

Your argument isn't with me, mate. It's with ZF Friedrichshafen AG themselves. Here's a company document that makes explicit mention of a 93K mile (converted) fluid replacement interval. As noted in the last paragraph on p. 1, that interval should be lower depending on operating conditions.Your mistaken, these transmissions are stout they’ll survive between oil changes for longer intervals waiting til 120k is fine for most cases.

A fluid replacement interval of 50K miles is mentioned here. The popularity of this thread isn't accidental. Credible sources, all. A clickbaity YouTube video? Not so much.
Should the repair bills be sent your way, if or when an owner who follows your advice experiences a transmission failure as he tries for 120K? Let us know.![]()
