I was wondering if anyone has heard or solved this issue with their 2.0? Or if its even an issue? It started after I changed my oil, I used Mobil 1 extended performance 5w-30. It just doesn't seem to sound right. Any ideas? Thanks!

Are you getting a check engine light and how does it drive? Certainly sounds suspicious on video. I would try some injector cleaner in the tank.

That’s what mine sounds like after a warm start after it’s sat for 15min. I always thought it was the tensioner getting oil pressure still.

No check engine and I'll try a cleaner! Appreciate it! Runs great, still take it on trails and no issues there, no weird sound when I drive just when I idle for a little bit.

A rough idle can be cross-walked to any number of things. Here's just a brief list of potential sources.
Cool I'll try a few of those things, I'll check the engine air filter first because I've been on a few very dusty trails.

So maybe its normal how a JL sounds??

Does it go away when you drive? Cause it’s rare that I hear it and it’s never from a cold start.

My 2.0 does not sound like this, even after idling for a while.

It did used to make a rattle on cold starts (as discussed here) but I've been able to resolve that by shortening my oil change intervals.

I am wondering if you could share how many miles yours has, how often you changed the oil, and have you always used Mobil 1? Did you also change the filter and which filters have you been using?

If I was sure it started literally after the oil change, I would try changing the oil and filter again.

It does. Sound fine when I drive and normally I only hear it from a cold start.

I just hit 25k miles and have been changing the oil every 5k miles. This is the exact oil and filter. It did start after I started using Mobil 1, and before that I was using the free oil change from the dealership. And I did those every 7k miles.

Gotcha, thanks for sharing. I also use the Mopar filters but use Pennzoil Platinum for oil, it also meets the Chrysler spec and I learned here that it's the factory/Mopar oil.

I don't think it makes any sense to go even shorter than 5k intervals, but maybe your use case requires it. Hopefully someone smarter than me will chime in with some insight into your issue.

While correlation does not always mean causation maybe try Pennzoil Platinum on the next couple changes and see if there's a difference. Sounds like the only thing that changed when your noise started was the brand of oil, though it doesn't seem a likely cause.

Good luck either way and keep us posted!

I’ll try that on my next change! Appreciate it!

My 2.0T sounds almost exactly like that from a cold start but will go away after 90 seconds or so. I haven't determined the cause as of yet, however.

Yeah mine doesn’t go away, and it only started 10k miles ago. If it was a day 1 kind of sound I’d be less concerned but since it’s a newish sound I want to make sure.

That's understandable, I got my jeep used (and didn't notice the noise until after I had it home for a while) so I'm not sure when it started.

From new, the 2.0T in my JLU has sounded mechanically busy, so to speak, during cold starts. This reconciles with what other owners have also experienced with the same engine.

That said, the sound is not, nor has it ever been, as pronounced as what's heard in your videos. I would troubleshoot as you plan to do (e.g., air filter, etc.) and see if anything changes during the diagnosis process. ?

What's interesting is that, when fully warmed and idling, the 2.0T is also one of the quietest engines that I've ever owned.

From new, I've performed my own oil changes. I've used Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum and Castrol Edge synthetic 5W-30 oils. The first two meet the discrete Chrysler spec for the turbo 4 as stated in the Owner's Manual. I've also used MO-339 filters fairly consistently, substituting the Mobil 1 M113 filter on occasion. Used oil samples are sent to Blackstone for analysis. The reported results are consistently good.

Yeah that’s why I’m a little concerned about that sound. It definitely is a quiet engine when it does idle without the sound. I’ll replace the engine air filter tonight, and I hope that it’ll be just that. I did take out my old one and it was super dusty so maybe it’s just getting choked out? ??
