That pic. Just doesn't look right to me, maybe, but dam that is a lot of pieces and parts in the oil pan for one piston coming apart. I mean the 2.0 L turbo has little bitty pistons.

I have blown up a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. I was doing 130 mph pushing about 18 pounds of boost when cylinder 3 came apart, piston hit the valves, lots of real bad damage. But, no where near that many parts broken laying in the oil pan etc.

I hope it all works out for you though.

I don't know but this kind of thing is exactly why I bought a 8 year 100,000 mile extended warranty for my Jeep when I got it. Engine explodes at 90,000 miles, not my problem.
Same here, $1500 for 8 years of coverage on the Jeep, $3500 for my TRX. 8 years of not my problem, just have to keep records of maintenance.

Looks like a hell of a lot more than 1 500cc piston worth of shrapnel to me.

Yeah I'm with the naysayers.

I mean the second you had camshaft issues, you probably should have towed it to your dealership.

I don't know if negligence plays any part in warranty issues, but if it does...

I got the impression on a previous incident of codes related to the camshaft sensor he had it repaired by the dealership.

I got the impression on a previous incident of codes related to the camshaft sensor he had it repaired by the dealership.
Almost immediately following a recall software update... The next day I get a check engine light with a P0344 code (Camshaft Position Sensor Intermittent - Bank 1 Sensor 1. The next day I get a complete engine failure with a revving and what sounded like a downshifting. No audible bang or anything but on a loud highway uphill after a river crossing everything died and I drifted to the shoulder.
So it looks like:

Day 1: dealership software update
Day 2: check engine light and camshaft sensor
Day 3: shredded engine

Also, it sounds based on the description, that maybe he had done a river crossing and then gone to the highway afterwards? I feel better punctuation on OP's part would have made this a lot easier to understand.

*"No audible bang or anything, but on a loud highway uphill, after a river crossing, everything died and I drifted to the shoulder."

It makes a lot more sense with some commas in there!

Let’s eat, grandma.

Let’s eat grandma.

My vote crossed water, imploded a piston but limped to a road where it died…

No way a piston does that because of valve timing, that’s explosive over pressure right there.

You know when they took him to the finance office and offered him that extended warranty while he was signing all the sales documents and he turned it down... Yeah about that...

Yeah I mean I turned down their extended warranty too because they wanted almost $4,000 and I got a much better deal through one of our forum sponsors but still. I had enough common sense to make sure I was covered.
Well, I’ve skipped every extended warranty on every truck, car, jeep, motorcycle, washing machine, etc for over45 years. Uncovered repairs have forced me to buy one engine (partial), a transmission, and a couple refrigerators. I figure that puts me only about $296,329 ahead of where I’d be if my version of common sense had required me to buy extended warranties for everything for all those years. :whew:

This, every obstacle in life presents a unique opportunity.

It sucks that this happened and in reality there is nothing the dealership will do. But, now you have an engine bay of possibilities. My vote is for dropping in a small block.

We can all armchair quarterback, but it sounds like this happened right after the dealer had it. Helluva coincidence. My takeaway, you made it 90k and shouldn't have let them touch it.
LKQ has motors, sorry for your loss.
