Hi,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I'm sorry this is happening. Can you please confirm what platform you're trying to pull your music in from? Is it Apple Music, or Spotify?

Apple/iTunes. It works perfectly in my husbands F150. I can see EVERYTHING. The Jeeps uConnect is different, but I feel like it still should work. Otherwise what's the point?

I take it back! I don't know why it works today, but it does. I just went out for a drive and got the grey partial playlist thing, but I tried the button on the steering wheel while I was driving (curious) and it allowed me to send a text! That was new, so when the car stopped I checked the playlist again and there it was!! It's grey while driving (the playlists), but that's fine. I can still change songs within the one I chose when I was stopped. That's good enough for me! I can use voice commands if I want to change it.

Maybe it just takes a few days to kick in? (We bought the Jeep on Friday). The app definitely took over 24 hours before it showed me any vehicle information.

I’m having a similar problem. CarPlay only shows five or six of my downloaded albums (shown in the playlist section) and NONE of my actual playlists, AND they’re all greyed out (even while parked).

Also holding the talk button down will allow me to give voice commands, but none for music or text messages. WHY?!
I have a similar problem, but it's intermittent and I don't see any logical reason for it doing this. Sometimes I'll only see 10 playlists in Spotify or the last 10 podcasts in Overcast and at other times it will show me my entire list. I only check when I'm stopped at a light or parked so it has nothing to do with the vehicle being in motion. I have several friends with different makes of vehicles that have the same issue.

Alison & @JeepCares -

Thanks for following up. I am happy to provide some specifics:
  • 2020 JLU Sahara; 8.4" touchscreen
  • I am using an iPhone XS Max
  • I have a considerable about of music downloaded to the phone from my iTunes account
  • I have a very large music collection in iTunes (20K songs; many playlists -- I'm a music junkie, what can I say?), so my music collection displays both downloaded and cloud music files (I am debating changing it so it only displays music downloaded to the phone to see if that helps.)
  • I have verified that I am not in "Do Not Disturb" mode on either the phone or the Jeep settings
  • My phone is connected to the Jeep via a USBc - lightning cable - 3ft long; I have experimented with several different cables and different inputs to make sure the behavior is consistent and it is not a cable/connection problem.
  • So when I plug in the phone and go to CarPlay, I can see all of the items on any of the artists, songs, playlists, menus, as long as the Jeep is in park or at a complete stop.
  • As soon as I start driving, the menu jumps back a screen. Then selecting the playlist or artist menu shows about 6-8 "recently played" items, but they are all greyed out and inactive.
  • If I come to a stop again, all of the playlists and artists re-appear and are active again (both screen and selection knob)
  • My assumption is that you configured it to not allow scrolling of large lists while the car is in motion.
  • I can use Siri to start a playlist, even though I can't see it on the menu. I just have to remember the names of all of my playlists, artists, albums. Or I end up grabbing the phone to start something, which I would prefer not to do.
Let me know if you need any more information. Happy to have a direct conversation with you. Thanks!

This is also what's happening to me. I can also verify that DND is disabled while driving.

If you read up you will see that it seems to be working now, with exception of the problems mentioned (greys out while moving, jumps back a screen, etc). I CAN however touch the "next up" key and it will show me what songs are next on the playlist I chose. I am able to scroll through those to choose another song, but I am not able to choose another playlist.

I will let it be for now, but if I continue to have a problem I will drop you a line. Thanks! (Milage is only 196 kms).

I have the same issue with Carplay as the original poster. I thought it would be a simple setting update as well, but haven’t found any way to correct it. I did stumble upon a thread on an Apple support site that said the issue was in the Jeep Carplay restrictions itself and not with Itunes or Iphone.

The really strange thing is when I plug my 10 year old ipod classic (doesn’t use Carplay) into the USB, I can scroll and select all of the music options. However, as soon as I switch to my Iphone XR, I’m back to the restrictions.

This isn’t a deal breaker my any means; but it is annoying when on a long interstate trip and stuck listening to the same music. To me, this “safety” feature went too far and makes Carplay kind of worthless.

I too have the 8.4 Uconnect with Nav and Infotainment system.

Hi everyone,

I've spent some time looking into this concern for you and have found an answer. I just spoke with our Uconnect specialist and unfortunately, this is a new safety feature from Apple. The iOS 13.1.2 update included features in the CarPlay music app are deactivated when the vehicle is in motion. Specifically, you cannot browse music by album, artist, or playlist. The items will be greyed-out and inactive until the vehicle comes to a stop. When the car is stopped, the music app behaves normally.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I appreciate you taking the time to look into this for me. And while I can accept that this is out of FCA's control, it certainly seems like the people over in Silicon Valley have gotten lost in their own little bubble again. This is either a very short-sighted attempt at safety or some sort of half-baked notion to get more people using Siri. Now, if you're driving down the highway and you want to change your music, you have to either attempt some sort of Siri command or pull over and come to a complete stop to use your Carplay interface. Or... I expect most people will just pick up their phone and select what they want to hear, which completely defeats the purpose of having Carplay in the first place. :headbang:

Happy holidays!

First, you are very wrong, unfortunately. I tested this with ios 11 and ios 12 and both OS's block CarPlay features while in motion, it has nothing to do with ios 13.. This is 100% on FCA/Uconnect, not iOS. I've also proven this with using aftermarket wireless carplay dongles (that are unreliable at best and not recommended to buy right now until they mature) but it does not BLOCK any features of carplay in the jeep while in motion. It is the wire signal plugged into the USB of the jeep on how the Jeep knows and FCA/Uconnect block the functions.

Second, to the OP and others, I posted many threads on this a while back.

https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/nav-motion-lockout-defeat.6374/page-3#post-813979

https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...s-to-contacts-or-even-the-phone-dialer.32388/

Currently, the TazerJL does NOT fix the carplay issue on its nav in motion setting, so dont bother with that, i've already reached out to him with this issue quite a few times over the summer and he's even struggling to fix it.

I'm pretty upset you would come on this forum and be dishonest or not be more thorough in your research of this problem.

you sir, nailed it. My argument as well.

Here's the worse part, im in my jeep a lot, on conf calls using BT headphones. Apple designed Carplay with large buttons to make it simple and safe. Guess what, when im on a conf call or have to dial into one, i cant press the dialer buttons on the PHONE function in CarPlay because Jeep/Uconnect blocks the GOD DAMN DIALER keys, and i cant say the numbers to the CUstomer service most of the time or the dial in of my work conf calls, so i have to pickup my phone and press the numbers. Now, in massachusetts, starting in 2020, it is against the law to even touch your cell phone while driving, so now i'm shit out of luck.

So to the @JeepCares service person, it is 100% bullshit apple put this restriction in, this is Jeep/FCA and or Uconnect who designed this restriction.

More proof, my Wifes volvo XC90 2018 works perfect, nothing is blocked for Carplay while in motion using ios 13.3 or any other ios version.

@JeepCares After doing some research online (grain of salt, I know) I had hear the same thing -- that this is an FCA configuration issue, not Apple -- and I have been in rentals with Carplay and able to access everything. I am going to try to test this in someone else's vehicle to see if I can access everything or if the motion lock still applies. Maybe you can have someone else with the Uconnect team take another look. As you can see from his thread link above, this has been an ongoing issue in the forum. Thanks!
