I am planning on rock crawling my JLR and looking at chassis protection. I have seen a couple pictures of damage to these control arm mounts on the frame. Wondering if it will be an issue worth addressing with skids. I have found a set for the rear but nothing for the front....

Rusty’s says they will be working on a front weld on version soon.
Anyone find a first hand need for these skids ?

I think you'll want to protect the LCA and maybe even the shocks. I recently mounted the RH set (front and rear LCA) & they're fantastic. Rancho makes a longer skid that covers the rear LCA and shocks.

The rear shock bolts are a spinch too long and I crunched one coming off a rock. I think If I had the skids at the time, it may have deflected from directly hitting the bolt.

Yes. On my JK, the driver side front control arm frame side mount is bent from rocks. I have a hard time removing and installing that control arm. Takes a lot of prying to get it in and out.

And on the JK, I mangled all of the lower control arm axle side mounts. Had to have them cut off and installed Artec replacement brackets.

On the JL, I am putting skids on everything before I start having issues. The frame side skids, in my opinion, are a great idea. I didn't know anyone made them. Thanks for posting!

Thank you, for repling with 1st hand experience. These open mounts seemed a lot more damage prone than the old leaf spring mounts I’m familiar with.

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink.
I suppose I missed something? The link in this thread was the rear, I need the front.

I have the other skids already. I have damage in the exact place you are looking for a skid for, and I was agreeing that I want some as well. Not sure what drove the snarky response.

I know this is an old thread but couldn't find a more recent discussion of this.

I managed to damage the front frame side LCA mount. The damage was minor and I plan to straighten the bent section, but I think there is a decent chance of it happening again. I have skids on all the lower mounts, and the rear frame mount, but haven't seen anything for the front frame mount. I was curious if anyone knows of a way to protect this area?

I did not like how the front frame brackets are so vulnerable. I was able to get the Rusty's rear frame skids but was unable to find anything for the front. I ended up using the Metal Cloak geometry correction brackets. First it helps the jeep drive better on and off-road by reducing bump steer. Second they are very beefy and hang about 2" below the frame which as you can see in the picture totally protects the front control arm frame bracket. I understand that I sacrificed some clearance, but I have yet to hit them and due to their low cost I look at them as sacrificial. I now have no worries about the front frame brackets. With the cost of Jeeps increasing each year I plan on keeping my 21 Ruby for a long time.

I believe Rustys has a plate that you can weld on. I dont know of any bolt ons.

RIght, I see those on Rusty's web site, but it lists them as lower control arm skids and I think that is also what this image shows.
Yes those are weld on skids for the front axle bracket. I had them on my JK. I am currently running the Hard Rock skids for the front and rear axle. Heavy duty and bolts on to existing brackets.

There you go! Hard Rock makes them.
