The hole is 2", and that should equate to a 5/8" pin hole, if that is what you're asking...

ya I thought for sure 2" receiver always meant you need a 5/8" receiver pin but I was wondering if the tow package also has a 1/2" hole in it so you can use J-pins or also called curt pins

MOPAR's Roof Rack for the 2018 JL

P/N TCCAN859

Questions:

1) Will it only work with the top on, and that top being the OEM Hardtop, or might an OEM soft top work as well? (I realize that people can't speak to aftermarket tops not yet made available for sale on the new JL.)

2) Can the basket for this item be separated from the cross bars so that the cross bars can be used to hold other things on top of them?

3) Can only the cross bars be purchased, and not the basket?

4) Does anyone know of aftermarket vendors with JL compatible cross bars?

Thanks

It would only work with the oem hardtop with a gutter mounted roof rack system.

That part number is just for the cargo rack itself. The roof rack(feet and cross bars) would have to be purchased separately. Then you mount the cargo basket to the roof rack.

Any gutter mount roof rack will work, many options by Thule, Yakima, and others. Only thing you’d have to know is if that cargo rack is setup for round, tube, or bladed cross bars. Judging by the pics it’s setup for bladed cross bars but that might be interchangeable depends what hardware it comes with.

It could work with the soft top if you get one of those cages that goes around the whole Jeep, not sure what they’re called, safari rack maybe? I don’t see the purpose of them cuz you can’t get the top off then though without taking off that whole cage.

This is a gutter-mount crossbar system. It is unlikely to fit on a body-mounted roof rack and crossbars are often integral parts of these roof racks.

All you’d need is different style feet if you had the body mount roof rack so that the cross bars mount onto the body mount roof rack. It can be done easily.

Agree. But my point is that you wouldn't want to buy this Mopar gutter system if you also had to buy new feet. Just go aftermarket. (I'm a big Thule fan. I should probably buy stock in that company considering all the Thule stuff I own.) And body-mounted roof racks typically (always?) have crossbars as part of the rack.

I agree. But he’s referencing the cargo basket itself. He thinks the cargo basket comes with the roof rack setup which I doubt it. $430 is the cost of a new Thule/Yakima rack so I’m sure that part number is just for the cargo basket.

Ah. Sorry for my confusion.

I've been pricing out how much it would cost for me to replicate the bright white 2-door Sport shown at the LA Auto Show. Yes, TCCAN859 is the part number for only the the cargo carrier/basket (online price $299). The Mopar gutter roof rack kit is p/n - 82215387 (online price $256).

I just picked up the roof rack kit (just the feet and bars, no basket) from the dealership yesterday. I plan to take a look at them today and maybe do a test install, but it will be a couple weeks before I need them on there to transport some skis. If you have specific questions about the bars/feet, I may be able to answer. I can also take some pictures if you want.

I wanted to go with the Thule feet, bars, and locks, but I opted to save a couple hundred bucks going with the Mopar feet and cross bars ( $250+tax after dealership coupon/discount.) I think the biggest disadvantage on these will probably be the fact that you can't use Thule's lock system to lock these down.

That’s pretty cheap for a roof rack I’m surprised. A Thule rack full setup is usually like $400ish I think? Haven’t looked In a while.

I lucked out and grabbed a gutter mount roof rack setup for free off craigslist a while back and just been holding onto it knowing I’d be getting a wrangler one day haha. Only problem is the guy lost the keys to the lock so he drilled out little holes in the feet to pop out the locks so he could get it off his car. So either I buy new feet or melt some plastic into those holes and buy new cores.

Does the Mopar rack kit have a locking mechanism? The description doesn't mention anything and it doesn't look like it from the pictures.

What exactly does the left dimmer switch control? Left as you’re looking at from the driver’s seat. The manual says it controls the “interior and ambient light levels.” I’ve rotated it all the way up and down and haven’t noticed any changes, both with the headlights on and off.

Yes....unfortunately the key is a flat head screw driver.

However, It looks like the locking screw might be able replaceable with a lock cylinder. What do you think?

Hey Zac:

Would you spare me no detail on part numbers, internet references, etc., on simply the cross members and feet (read: toes, not inches) from MOPAR?

The basket, which seems to be the only thing that comes with the product number I originally mentioned in my starting post on this topic, is ironically enough, that portion of the entire installation I don't need.

Thanks.
