Without the power top I’d get the dual top w painted hard top so the price difference is only $600 I believe.

Well here is MY pros/cons for each top

Soft top:
Pro:
Easily put down
Con:
Plastic windows
Rear window doesn’t pop up (like hardtop)
Hard top:
Pro:
Window pops up
Windnoise lessened and better insulation
Con:
HUGE PITA to remove completely.
Power soft top:
Pro:
Easily taken “back”
Rear side windows come out
Back window pops up like hard top
Con:
Frame “fixed” in position
Back window doesn’t come off
I would like more accessibility to the rear cargo space for golf clubs and many other things I seem to have a need to haul around often enough. Hell even groceries can be a pain reaching under the soft top rear window.
you forgot a pro for the hard top and a con for the soft top....U-Haul wont rent a trailer to a soft top, but will rent a trailer to a hard top.... I first found this out when 300 miles from home with a wife that just bought a new stove......was a real :swear: moment I had with the uhaul customer service.

When When When is the Power Top going to be available to order?

Now that Ocean Blue is available, all I need is Power Top and Turbo Engine and I can press "go"!!! Over past few weeks, I was worried we would be into May/June before my three requirements were available, but after this weekend one is down and there are now rumors that the other two are going to be released soon. I've heard Power Top and Turbo might be available for order within days!!!! I CAN'T WAIT.

I hope the rumors turn out to be true. That would be wonderful!
Are the rumors from a reliable source?

FCrackerJLRubi: maybe I'm missing something. Would you share with me the rationale behind U-Haul's refusal, even though neither you nor I seem to understand it, for acting this way?

According to the Uhaul website: "No open or soft-top sport utility vehicle is allowed to tow a U-Haul trailer, because in the event of a crash, these vehicles offer less collision and ejection protection."

Thanks for the 411 Dave. I'm not sure I understand U-Haul's rationale, but thanks.

I think I need to introduce U-Haul to the Sports bar and mandatory safety belt for each occupant rule in my vehicle???????

One can only imagine how U-Haul will classify the JL's power soft top.

I have an employee that has a Jeep Liberty will a similar top. It's also cloth and power folds back accordion style to open. I asked her about it and she said she likes it but she only drives around town. She loves the convenience of opening with a simple button like a sunroof. She said she wouldn't get it again though because it's too noisy on the highway. I hope they've improved it and I want to test before purchasing but that probably won't be possible so I'll just get the dual tops.

Just want to sit in it and see how “open” this top really feels. Plus wondering what that wind hitting the back window would feel and sound like. Man, if that back window was removable this thing would be a grand slam for me.
Can’t you just ride with the rear window open?

.. I think their rationale is to listen to their legal department who is listening to their insurance carrier - etc..

ARGH, why can't they just give us a known date, for indecisive, impatient people like me struggling with whether to purchase now or wait to the new top comes out, based both on delay and not being able to decide whether the sky one-touch will be worth it despite some obvious "cons."

I guess "getting reamed on option pricing" is a jeep thing now, too.

I rode in a Fiat 500 Convertible that had this exact same kind of sliding power accordion top (smaller scale, of course), and it really didn't feel like a convertible - more like a giant sunroof.

I think people should definitely try before they buy with this.

Yeah but a giant opening in a shoebox sized car definitely doesn’t feel the same as on a JLU... Not getting it nor saying it’s the next best thing, just that you can’t really compare... ;)
