Emergency tool kit

Went to the loacal Homecenter today to get some battery bypass hardware and came across a few portable Kobalt tool boxes, I found three of them reasonably priced and was thinking of getting one to just carry just in case, so with that said which would you pick or should I be looking at something else

I bought their 93 pc for $42.00 on Black Friday. I asked twice, they said yep. I couldn't pass it up. 1/4"- 3/8"- hex bits and allens.

I picked up a Craftsman 51-piece set (SAE & metric) for $60. It has a 3/8-in drive. Got it for my son since he's always "borrowing" my tools to work on his truck

Any of those is good, I would purchase 21 mm socket also , some of your suspension bolts are 21 mm. An adjustable wrench, and a coupe of screwdrivers.

Either is a must-have. I keep a Dewalt 3/8 set that fits nicely under one seat & a mashup of assorted tools in a storage box from Harbor Freight under the other. Smaller sockets, a pair of pliers, an adjustable, panel removers, Allen & Torx bits, etc. @Roky has the right idea.

Just to add, since this is turning into a “what I carry thread” I am going to carry a set of Metrinch sockets and wrenches. The Pro is they are very compact set as each socket/wrench does a standard and metric size. The con is because of the way they “bite” there is some play so they are tough to work in tight spaces. For a trail set, they will work out great... at least I hope so, because the wife just bought me a sweet Craftsman set for Christmas so I can retire the Metrinch to the Jeep/RV.

I went back and asked about the set you have and they said they sold them all but are getting more in and to come back the first if the year, currently they have the set you have for $49 but are out but said when they get more I can get it at that $49 price

you definitely need 18 21 22 mm and a good old adjustable wrench. most of the suspension bolts are 18 and 21s.

Argh, I own so many socket sets, but at those prices, why not another one? Ain't nobody got time to warranty a broken socket.....
One in my tool chest, one in the basement, one in the garage, one in the bathroom, one in the kitchen, and now one in the Jeep

I also have a spud wrench (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JJ8RBVK) that acts as my adjustable and fits the occasional "I need something stabby" need.

I mention the socket set because it seems to be in the same price range the OP was looking at, and is all 3/8".

I agree 100%. I usually carry a decent size craftsman automotive toolkit with 6 and 12 point sockets. It came in handy removing an axle shaft on a LJ our last outing since we needed the 12 point sockets. I also always bring my 18mm,21,22(on the JL), a breaker bar, the proper size axle shaft nut socket(I don't recall the size off the top of my head), a large adjustable wrench, a pipe wrench an assortment of zip ties & some steel wire.
