Morning all. I got my ass kicked this weekend by HardRock. I have done all the work on my vehicles, from complete suspension lifts to electrical upgrades to everyday pm's but this skid system won. Everything is built tough (heavy) which i like but it makes it tough to do on the ground, plus it doesn't look like the correct set to me. There seems to be a difference between what my undercarriage looks like and what the directions show. I will update after i talk with RH to see what is going on

Well, my "winch" is a come-a-long! I don't have the cabbage for a new bumper and winch set up. So I want to at least have something to pull my butt out of the mud or sand when I'm out there alone. Haven't needed any recovery equipment yet, but one never knows.....!
then you would need another long line and a tree saver strap at least. snatch blocks will add to your pulling power. think pirates with block and tackle. a scenario would be tree, tree saver strap attatched to come along, hooked to line to vehicle, snatch block anchored to vehicle, line (thru snatch block) back to tree, snatch block attached to tree saver next to come along, line (thru snatch block) back to vehicle. secure line to vehicle. and yes we carry all this stuff lol and both have a winch!

Just had a couple walk up to Jeep, they didn't realize I was in it. Lmao. I guess the tint works. She is filthy but people still love her.

Something else to remember when using this is that if you are using a recovery strap that allows for stretch (think rubber band effect) with that come-along for recovery, you may want to get another one that doesn't have any elasticity to it. The "stretch" will make the come-along winch less effective and much more dangerous. You only want elasticity when pulling someone out with the link between two vehicles. If you are using a winch setup, you want to minimize the stretch as much as possible which is also why you should not use a snatch strap as a tree saver.

I just picked out a snatch block and shackles that were rated for 20k lbs.
thats a huge snatch block tho, say you have a 10k lbs winch, you can use 5k snatch blocks. i have a huge one if anybody wants it, i mis ordered. the smaller ones are smaller and lighter. the load halves everytime you add a pulley so you dont need to consider such huge loads. the ones i got i think are 4k or 4.5k lbs and thats the perfect size to pack n carry i think. i think every pulley doubles your pulling power by halving the load or something like that. i carry three, makes it possible to winch yourself backwards.

ya a snatch strap is much different than a snatch block. ones a pulley and ones a stretchy recovery rope, do not mix these two in any way as sardog says. use the stretchy rope as a stand alone only. i dont carry stretchy rope. only recovery straps and tree saver strap.

Outstanding! That's exactly what I have! Plus I'm also looking at these: (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079M5FV2X/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_3?smid=ACUHLP5MR9DM8&psc=1). They aren't MaxTrax (just can't afford them right now) but they got decent ratings and look like they would do the trick. I guess only time will tell.... and then it'll be too late if they don't work! LOL!

i have honestly only used pulleys once and i have never used actual max trax or the like, floor mats on the other hand? i have winched myself up and over rocks twice thus far. i used to drive a water truck in deep sand, i rarely have issues in sand. mud on the other hand? yuck. i rather tug it out than try and get all muddy with those trax lol im old. im looking for an old you tube vid i saw on how to use a system like yours where you would have to lock the load in place while you reset your come along. if i find it ill post. you use prussik knots if im not mistaken, like the mountain climbers.

That's actually a clever idea...You could tie off to any tow point and crank away. :like:

I might do that if I ever go wheeling without someone with a winch...

Edit: Upon further reading, I shall consult @jlopes68 beforehand if I ever decide to actually purchase recovery gear. :like:
