Despite this they sold them with some very questionable welds that made it past those sharp eyes.

LOL since when is 6k some milestone in milage.

To the OP might want to read through here and decide if it worth it to you.

Jeeps are great, if I end up with a JL it'd be my 3rd. That said I'm a realist and not everyone is going to want to put up with the BS for benefits.
It’s only been out 6 months... I think he picked 6K based on 12k per year avg. some in that thread are over 16k.

Whatever.

Yep, the 2.0L is a completely different can of worms. First ever use of direct injection on Wrangler. First ever use of a turbo-charger on a Wrangler. eTorque is brand new. 48 volt battery with wiring. Multiple underhood changes. It's a game changer for sure.

The electronics are also capable of being finicky.

But I'm just talking about your standard V6 Wrangler JL in terms of keeping it on the road for many years. Keeping it driveable. There really isn't anything as easy to work on and maintain as a Wrangler. Simple body on frame construction and lots of room to get arms and hands in places. And, the way the axles function is pretty simple to learn too. I like the Wrangler for it's simplicity compared to everything else on the market.
Something to be said about keeping it simple. I would assume the 3.6 is a more proven design. There is less to potentially go wrong. Saying that my TJ was as basic as it gets and was always in need of some repairs. In all fairness it was old. My TJ actually was by far the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned but still one of my favorite vehicles. And I have had more then few really fun cars that were trouble free. I am still on the fence between a 3.6 and 2.0, knowing there is a lot more potential for something to possibly go wrong. Am I sick or what? lol.

if jeeps quality goes downhill, so will their cult following. jeep has to make a superior product if only for their fans.

i've been driving and wheeling jeeps in canada's rugged northern wilderness for almost 20 years. still have my first jeep, a 1990 cherokee that i've rebuilt a couple times and gets wheeled hard. that 4.0L just keeps on going. that's the motor they should never have gotten rid of.

my vw tdi sportwagon was hit and written off. i could have bought anything this time round, so i went with whats tried and true. nothing better than a jeep.

Jeep's quality is bad and has never been its selling point. And yet, I have never owned a vehicle other than my jeep wranglers.

Their mechanical quality is not bad. It’s reliable as a mofo. It’s the stupid electronics and so called luxuries that they suck at. That is why I went sport model. I guarantee the current JL’s heated this and that and all these luxury and convenience groups will fail. Like my 2000 Cherokee, that thing will not die! But it’s interior electronics, door locks, etc is crap.

That’s why older grand cherokees are so cheap. All their interior products are junk.

considering getting a JL sport, not sure if maintenance and repair will stack the cost.
Such an open question. Reliable compared to what? From its on off road capabilities, the only ones to compare would be Mercedes G, Land Rover, Land Cruiser. Wrangler being the cheapest by far and just as reliable as the G, better than Land Rover and below the Land Cruiser, but I again, 1/3 of the price. So yes it is reliable. If you are comparing with a car, it’s in the middle of the bunch. But You are buying a special kind of vehicle.

Are you talking about Land Rover? Same thing. But Jeep much cheaper for the same headaches. You got to love them or dump them. People will keep buying them.

No, I’m talking about Jeep. Interior luxury has never been their strong point. That’s why I was surprised with the new features the JL was given in terms of electronics and features.

I believe it is! Just hope I can say the same thing when I have 100,000 miles on my Jeep. The way we’re putting miles on this thing we’ll probably know in about 5 years.

Zero problems here at 600 miles. If I were you looking on the lot. Check for a late MFG date. Mine was July 2018.
Zero issues at 11K.

Painting in broad strokes, IMHO the JL has yet to be shown to be unreliable or reliable.

Sure, there's those nightmares a few owners have had to deal with. And there's many like me that baring a cruise control recall, have (knock on wood) had few issues.

I say let's make it through some more time behind the wheel, including the kind that takes the rig through 4 seasons before jumping to conclusions: much that I hope the answer will be yes.

I would not say reliable as many people experience serious steering issues (including myself). There is a nearly 100 page thread on this forum and on a few others. Not all JLs have but lots do. A friend of mine has the same JL I drove and no steering issues but mine happened to arrive with them. Additionally, I have a few minor issues w leaking rear window wiper, some noises in the door / frame and something with my seat. Steering issue is most serious, other issues are not as big deal.
