Oompa Loompa doo-ba-dee doo
I've got a perfect puzzle for you
Oompa Loompa doo-ba-da dee
If you are wise, you'll listen to me

What do you get when you cut down bumps?
Trimming so much in big ass clumps
What are you at? Jeep sitting terribly flat
What do you think will come of that?
I don't like the look of it

Oompa Loompa doo-ba-dee da
If you're not cringey, you will go far
You will live in happiness too
Like the Oompa Loompa doo-ba-dee do

Dang, price has gone up like $300 on those tires, currently sitting around $700-750. Be a hell of a steal at your prices.

Good to know on the trimming though, I'm planning on running a more standard bump config so I'm sure that'll minimize it some. Currently at 2" or 2.5" in the back and 37s juuuuust kiss the edge of the pinch seam all around, so figure take an inch and a bit off all the way around and play with control arm lengths and that'll get me set as long as I'm willing to keep a bit of bump in the back.
When I had the 39s, they measured 37.6" brandy new. BFGs are notoriously small. So, you may get the same actual tire size out of the 38" nitto

Yeah was my thought too, but I've avoided Nitto since a set blew out the entire sidewall on a buddy on the highway. I know tons of people run them without issue, but I'm still pissed at them for a failing a buddy and making my ass help him unmangle his Jeep on the side of the interstate. Blowout was so violent his caliper came off, piston shot out when he went to use the brakes.

Holy fuck! that's brutal!
Nitto had some issues for a while, I remember reading. Like they got somewhat famous for the cracking between the tread blocks in the tire carcass. I also thought I read that it's since under control and they're more on track with their usual, good reputation. Don't quote me on that though. I don't have a nitto tire on anything (Toyos on my F250 though, basically the same company)

It was a wild failure - separated 360 around the tire on the outside save for like 2 spots, a few inches wide. Tread was held on to the inside sidewall only. The shittiest part though was that the area where the failure occurred has I40 down to 2 lanes, with a smaller-than-ideal shoulder. So here we are trying to get this handled with my lightest, smallest floor jack with tractor trailers stuck in the right lane like an arm's length away. The Jeep popped off the jack once due to the shaking from the air pressure generated by a passing truck. Sucked big hairy balls.

That's heinous.

Had a buddy roast a trailer tire, similar highway shoulder situation. He lives 45 mins from the place we were wheeling, so decided against bringing his jack. "What could go wrong"

So then he calls me, strapped into my jeep and about to head out into the trails, asking me to bring my jack. Then we spent the next hour unfucking that. Of course his spare was deflated too, but I keep an inflator in the truck.

On the Nittos topic, I've got nothing against them. Really the only thing that has stopped me from running them is all the fanboy-ism around them. I'm not saying anyone is wrong for wanting a good tire, but my toxic trait is that I usually stop liking things as they gain a ton of popularity. Stupid, I know. It's the reason I'll never run the MT Baja Boss 42" tires, because everyone and their mom bought them as soon as they came out

If Nitto made a K spec in a 42x17, I'd have a hard time not trying it. Really having a hard time NOT buying some 43x17 interco TSL SX stickies. I have a problem

The fanboyism always made me meh about them, especially coupled with the weight. Size the same between competitors, even competitors that aren't BFG small, Nittos always ran on the heavier end and so I gravitated towards lighter tires. That event just kind of cemented a negative opinion about them for me. Like the 38x12.50 or 38x13.50 size, but won't run a Nitto now, and so that really really limits tire choice there. Mickey's got their Baja Pro in that size I believe, but it's bias ply and directional tread which kill it for me. Smattering of Falken options that don't float my boat there too.

Might as well just bite the bullet and jump to a 40 if youre already looking at spending 39s money. Hell I bet they can be the same price or cheaper than the 38/39s since they are sold more.
