Just wanted to bump this thread since several people might be thinking about replacing their battery before winter.

I can confirm that the Optima Yellow Top DH7 (H7 in their model line) works well in a JL Rubicon with eTorque and the factory tow package.

Thanks @Rhinebeck01 maintaining the list of compatible batteries in the first post , especially identifying that the factory tow package changes which size battery your Jeep uses, as well as everyone else for their battery feedback and input.

A JL or JT with tow package leaves the factory with an H7-AGM Group Size 94R Main battery.

A JL or JT without the tow package leaves the factory with a Group 48 H6 Main battery, which is a tad shorter in length then the H7-AGM Group Size 94R.

With that said, if you go to install an H7-AGM Group Size 94R battery in a JL or JT that left the factory with a Group 48 H6 battery you will, in order to install the H7, have to remove a small plastic stay/cleat you will find in the bottom of the Main's battery holder box. The stay/cleat comes out very easily.

I saw one post saying that the Odyssey Extreme ODX-AGM31 would fit in the JL battery tray (I have the tow package so the H7). The Extreme seems to be 13"L x 6.8"W x 9.5"H (with terminals or 8.5" H without). The stock battery seems to be around 12.5"L x 6.8"W x 8"H. My measurements of the stocker may be off a bit but basically, the Extreme seems to be 1.5" taller in height and maybe .25' - .5" longer.

Could someone confirm that they have put the Extreme battery in with no issues? I need to be sure.

@F4Flyer

I know no one that has installed this battery in their JL/JT. Not saying that it is not easily doable...

A concern..... that the wire for the IBS Sensor is long enough that it will reach the terminal that is that high up. Even with certain H7's the cable is just barely long enough.

IF anyone installs the Odyssey Extreme ODX-AGM31 in their JL or JT without fit issues, let me know and I will add the battery to the list on the 1st page of this thread..

If you go to the Odyssey website you can input your vehicle information and it will tell you which battery you need for your particular vehicle.

I did that but I would like to fit the Extreme in there IF someone else has been a pioneer in that.

@Rhinebeck01 - someone posted in another (Ratbert’s ?) battery thread than they put them in both a JL & JT without issue. But damn $520

@F4Flyer - found it
I put an Odyssey Extreme 27F in both my Gladiator (3.6) and my JL (2.0T). Biggest main I could find that fit. Working great.
I need my first after 3 years, did the 27 F’s extra 1.4” in height create any issues such as the cables being short or hood clearance ? Does it vent outside the vehicle like stock ? It would be an expensive mistake at ~2 1/2 X more than a standard H-7 like Everstart etc 🤔
I had no issues fitting it in either vehicle.

Good point. I do not know exactly where I found that model # but I will compare the specs. Thanks for catching that!

The OBX-AGM27F is the same length & width, but taller. The one I was referring to. Sorry if I wasn’t clear.

@Rhinebeck01

This is a great item to have & some people may rather have this out of the way under the hood but to me it seems a slight inconvenience to have to raise the hood to check voltage & or voltage drop.
Several years ago I found at Wmart a digital meter that plugged into the 12v power port & would show voltage. When I think of it I will take a pic & edit this with that pic.

Something that I have been meaning to post about.. It really is a good idea to routinely, monitor/check on your JL's batteries.

Sure, you can buy a pricey metering tool... You can learn to use it ....you can lug it around out on the trails and around town...

Rather then that pricey, larger footprint, metering tool, consider this outfit that is a no brainer to use, takes up little space, handles wear and tear and the elements.. Just toss this outfit in the glove box, etc..

If you want. you can also easily hard wire it right at the battery and Velcro the little meter to the battery blanket and leave it there 24/7/365, so at anytime you can easily spot check battery(s) voltage.

The little quality, easy to use, LED readout meter is a Deltran Battery Tender Voltage Indicator Battery Tester, LCD Display with LED Charge Indicator. The meter is sold on eBAY at a decent price here..

You mentioned a Odyssey Extreme ODX-AGM31, not an Odyssey Extreme 27F . Compare specs before you go forward with a purchase..
If an AGM battery is not available can we use the standard lead acid batteries in our jeep? What specs are we looking at?

Where are you that an AGM isn’t available in a size that fits?

I am looking but havent found a suitable one. I am in India
Even for our motorcycles the VARTAS are horrendously expensive since they are imported
