I sprayed plenty of starter fluid (either) in my JD 60 in Texas winters.
Hell, I bet u-joints last twice as long because of not getting shocked by a screaming engine with the choke stuck when shifting from park to drive or reverse! Also, anyone remember how many alternators were destroyed because of v-belts getting tightened too much!
2nd 392, ah but those Duntov 30-30’s sure did sound mean in a 327😉
A sound I truly miss, and they would run for their time. But I settled for L-79’s in my 66 Nova (stolen and stripped) and 63 Jeep. Upgrade the weak point lifters, *intake, carb, ignition, add headers and they would run with the solid lifter engines without the hassle.
*Early L-79’s had a decent aluminum high rise, the very last ones back to iron. Also a CR drop from 11-1 to 10.5-1 , derated 25 HP so they had less than a standard 396.
Love the “Ring” of 3x2’s and 2x4’s when opened up.

But multiple carbs sound sooo nice.
I had a 421 with 3 duces and it sounded wicked!
That part is true. I bet it did.! Had a buddy with an early GTO with the tri-power and headers with 4 straight pipes.

I think the 350 hp 327 was the target for MOPAR when they brought out their 340 Mag. The 275 hp rating was hilarious, my friend had a stock Dart Swinger with the exception of a Holley 3310 780 vac secondary with a 4 speed and 3.55’s.
That little bastard was fast!
It felt faster than my 06 GTO but I’m pretty sure my memory is a little off, way too many years on my butt dyno!
It would strap it on most anything we ran across in the 80’s.

Yep, a buddy had a 340 Duster. GTO’s were my favorite victims for both the Nova and L-79 powered Jeep. Chevys might have the excellent underrated 50 HP (425 for 65 Vette, 375 for Camaro/Chevelle) L-78 396, Mopar’s a 440 or the slim possibility of a 426, top tier Mustangs could typically be spotted. I learned my limitations the hard way nosing a built BB Mustang at the cost of a Muncie main shaft, dropped on and broke my left hand upon removal….. and a pizza, the toppings slid to the back of the box. 🙃

I think most people just like the way a Wrangler looks and that's the only image they care about.
The reality is most Wranglers are used by college boys and girls, soccer moms and guys that just want a Wrangler. Just like any forum of any product the people on here are a small fraction of Jeep owners and in no way represent 90% of current Jeep owners or their lifestyle. If those people went away sales would tank and you would have to buy something else.
I'm currently following someone on YouTube traveling the country on backroads and visiting amazing places all in a V8 Volvo wagon.
It looks like the latest Jeep marketing completely agrees with you. It's all about moving from one mall to the next. Nothing to do with off roading or doing insane adventures.

Oh wait. Nevermind.

I would bet that the vast majority of etorque owners don’t have a clue what it is or that they even have it. Forum posters are an entirely different breed.

Also, they’re all still new. The problems will be when the systems are 10+ years old and have zero parts support.

I doubt we will see 0 parts support for systems that sold hundreds of thousands of units in my lifetime. Too much demand for the aftermarket not to step in even if Mopar stops carrying parts in 20-30 years. The early hybrid cars and suvs like the prius or escape have aftermarket replacement batteries for less than half what Toyota or Ford charge. I'm willing to bet once all these etorque rigs are out of warranty you'll see the same for the 48v battery.

I can't, for the life of me, figure out how an executive could have signed off on this system. Can you imagine being at the sign off meeting:

Project Lead: "We have a system that adds a costly battery under the Jeep, runs a bunch of cooling lines outside the Jeep, requires a giant BSG in place of an alternator"
Sign-off Exec "Does it get faster acceleration?"
PL: "No"
EX: "Does it get better EPA ratings"
PL: "No"
EX: "What benefits does it provide"
PL:"We can claim electrification"
EX:"Does it actually move the vehicle"
PL:"Well, yes, but only for a 1/4 of a rotation of the wheel"
EX: :"Good enough, approved for production"

It really can't be any worse than this.
LOL

In reality I bet it was more like the financial people started whining about the EPA increasing corporate fines year over year unless they start electrification, and the same financial people demanded the cheapest way to do it. Someone said eTorque! and the financial weenies said “Sold!”

Yet, somehow the Bronco avoided all this nonsense. One battery, 3 engines, 2 transmissions, no nonsense.

Could it just be the Jeep/Stellantis have the worst engineering and executive leaders?

I mean thats always been the case from the very beginning of Chrysler why would Stellantis change that?

My post was in jest, of course, however Ford has (had) the all electric F-150 and eMustang so they had some electric credits on hand. The Bronco is small potatoes to Ford, whereas the Wrangler is Stellantis’s biggest seller. Also, the Euros who ran Stellantis at the time were fully on board with on board fully electrification. It was their go to end game for Jeep.

Ford hasn’t saddled it’s V8’s with MDS either that I’m aware of.

You’ll be buying Chinese remanufactured units from shady websites. Major aftermarket suppliers like Dorman have already cut their hybrid battery production entirely. We judged to be able to get them in a reasonable amount of time for a good price, but not anymore.

Ahm, no.

Bronco (full size) is Ford's 5th best selling name plate:

Top Selling Ford Models (2025 Full Year):
  • Ford F-Series: 828,832 units (including F-150, Lightning, and Super Duty).
  • Ford Explorer: 222,706 units.
  • Ford Transit: 161,797 units.
  • Ford Maverick: 155,051 units.
  • Ford Bronco: 146,007 units.
In the US, the Wrangler is the third best selling Stellantis name plate (2025), and sold only 21K units more than that Bronco. Grand Cherokee, even being on it's way out before the all new 2026, handily outsold the Wrangler. Internationally, of course, Stellantis has many other vehicles that sell more than the Wrangler.
