Well I'm happy that you live in Mayberry, but that's not the reality for most folks. As I stated before, everyone's experiences shape their opinions and actions, and your post definitely reflects that. Obviously, not everyone is in that same situation and they therefore have to take a few more precautions. I don't understand why that is so difficult to accept.
I've lived from San Diego, to DC, to Charlotte and now outside of Denver, 9 different states and countless addresses and am not terrified of my fellow humans like it seems some people are. Things aren't as bad out there as you are making them out to be. No matter how many times you claim otherwise.

You come across as very paranoid with a boogeyman around every corner.
Buy a house with a garage or a EV and no more worries about gas theft.
Also you could change your name to ChikenLittle92.

I don't think I "claimed" anything. Just shared my experience in some of the worst crime-ridden cities in America. You can read the stats just like anyone else. That said, I moved 16 times during 30 years in the military and my experience has been much like yours. I'm clearly not terrified, but we can't forget that other people's experiences are much different and we just need to respect and support them. If they want to wrap a chain around their Jeep, bolt it to the street, install 5 different alarms, surround it with a dozen rabid Rotweilers and install a $25 locking gas cap, then more power to 'em. Who are we to judge?

We should raise the price of gas tanks 1000% so people who siphon gas can't afford them.

They have every right to do that yea, and we have every right to tell them they are paranoid and are wasting their time and money.

SMH...if you've been following, this isn't about me, nor is it about gas theft. It's really about letting people do whatever they want with their vehicles and respecting their opinions. After all, nobody's browbeating the non-users for having unsecured gas caps. Just do whatever you want and let others do the same.

Well that says a lot! So much for respecting our fellow members and Jeep drivers.

Seems like we both have similar backgrounds and I mostly agree with your statements. However, the $1000 theft limit was clearly thought through by many perpetrators in CA, as manifested by numerous ongoing thefts that were intentionally below the limit. Interestingly, many were pre-meditated and calculated down to the penny, resulting in thefts totaling $999.

I respectfully disagree with your statement about deterrence though...especially from someone in law enforcement. Locking one's car doors and home entries, installing alarms, installing cameras, owning a dog, obtaining a CCW permit, etc., are all things that people do every day to deter crime. Assuredly, none of these things are 100% failsafe, but I'm 100% certain that these measures do more than just make folks feel better. Are you telling us that you never lock your home or car when unoccupied? Really?
You really suck at carrying concealed if it's deterring criminals? Locking doors is only going to deter the casual criminal. Nobody is carrying around chemicals to pour into fuel tanks. Theft happens because they want something of value. Vandalism happens because they want to damage something. Not potentially, maybe pour enough of whatever into the tank that the owner would even know it happened days from now. My doors are locked when I'm home for your safety. You wouldn't get past the dogs before getting shot and I don't want to have to shoot anybody. The cameras are there more to at least potentially catch the criminals more than deterring them. Like the soft top owners that would rather let someone rummage through their Jeep than have to replace the top, I'd rather not steer them towards more damaging and common Vandalism by locking the gas cap. We have hardtop on both Jeeps with tools and recovery gear inside so of course they are locked not because you can't smash a window and steal my stuff but to deter the casual crime of opportunity. I'd put a motion activated cam eras on the Jeep before a locking gas cap if I was truly worried.
