Hi all,
I took delivery last night for my JLUR.
First thing I noticed when I was driving out was the Service stop/start system warning light is on.
I thought it would go away once the engine warms up but it didn’t.
Anybody had this experience ?
Will be taking it to dealer first thing today.

There is a second battery that lets say handles stop/start. That secondary battery is on the passenger side front of JLU, behind the fender liner. (see pic below). Perhaps that battery is bad, a wire loose at battery, etc.. Also, there is a particular plunger switch (one of two) under the hood and if that is defective or disconnected you will see the error you are seeing. I'm just throwing out a couple of things I have read on the forum. Regardless, take it in and let dealer deal with it. Please come back and let all know here what the fix was.

@Gus .... There is also a button on the dash that you can press to toggle the stop/start on and off (disable it with) with. I'm not sure if you know that there is such a button. The button switches default is ON, so each time you start JLU and do not want ESS enabled, you need to press that button to disable it.

Ye sI am aware of the button, but that light in on all the time regardless if the button is pressed or not.

Will check it out soon, otherwise if I fail to fix it , I will take it to dealer later today

Look I'm all for self maintenance. It's an enjoyable hobby, but this event is precisely what the warranty is for. They sold you a product that either already had the issue or it happened immediately after selling it to you, so they should be the ones to fix it.

Within my first week of owning a Cherokee Trailhawk I had that same error repeatedly show up. I opened the fuse panel and upon checking if all the fuses were pushed in all the way, I found multiple fuses that were not entirely seated. I pushed them all the way in and the problem went away for good.

There are so many systems tied into stop start so if anyone else has this issue please check your fuses as well.

Second day of ownership (3 days ago)this happened. My first thought was GOOD, I dont need it or want it anyway despite it being reasonably transparent. Mine started working again then stopped again which goes to what was posted a loose connection or that hood latch. I did have it open to peek in there I will check and post up.

THIS. I popped off the cover to find a zillion fuses. MANY were not seated, some went down a lot. Test ride confirms it works, at least thus far.

I get that this is a good idea in cities and bumper to bumper traffic but it's pretty stupid for me. Yes there is a button but I have to intervene after every start up. Cant wait for someone to come up with a permanent defeat on this. Or at least a button that works once and your done until maybe you do need it.

Happening here, too. Just got my new Black JLUR and since I drove it off the lot, I've been getting the "service unavailable" message for ESS. Hasn't worked once. Dealer told me as we were getting gas for the car that it was "finicky." Probably a bit more to it than that.

Poked around in the internet to read up on ways ESS could have been disabled. Jeep Informant showed how it was connected to the main battery and the sensor (tall button) under the hood.

Just for kicks I looked for the same areas under my hood and found the connection point at the battery looked like it, and the battery cables had been handled a bit. The cap was pulled back, looked like it had been wet, and the plug that goes off to ESS was outside its wire holders. With 82 miles on the clock at delivery I wonder if my rig had an intense life as a demo before I got her. Or maybe the dealer did something to disable the ESS for their benefit and didn’t change it back. Clear signs of use with no transparency about why. With it being delivered as a new I shouldn’t have ask about it’s prior life. They should be forthcoming about the car’s condition. As I said before, when I asked about it, I was told the ESS was “finicky”.

I want to give the dealer the benefit of the doubt as they we helpful to me but noticing the underhood stuff shakes my trust. Either way I’m taking it in Monday and will pass along these observations.

There are many complaints about the ESS in the threads here, but one word that hasn't been used to describe it is "finicky." And it's been called many things, most NSFW. 82 miles seems awfully high for a "new" vehicle. That's a lotta Taco Bell runs.
