I believe if you open your key fob up you will indeed find a battery. CR2450
Yes, they all have a battery in them but the key is used manually to unlock/lock the doors. I keep a spare key in my wallet, no battery, no circuit board. I can unlock the tailgate very fast incase of zombies and such. ;)

My AR pistol fits under the back seat just fine, and I can reach it from the drivers seat even surrounded by zombies. Of course a full length AR fits there too. A defensive weapon that you have to get out and open the rear hatch to get to might as well be at home in the safe in my opinion. It's like my buddy who got his ccw and put his stupid desert eagle on it. 1st I wouldn't bet my life in that unreliable pistol. 2nd it's so massive and heavy that he never has it on him. If you can't comfortable carry your carry gun every day it's useless. If you can get to your rifle without getting out and opening the back of your vehicle you might as well not have it. But you do you.
That is full of all the stupid. An unsecured firearm in your vehicle is absolutely irresponsible, unsafe and stupid. What your buddy does with his penis compensator is irrelevant. A rifle under the rear seat is a puzzle I doubt you can solve and definitely not faster than retrieving a secured firearm from the rear storage cubby(if the tailgate is unlocked of course). Yeah a rifle miles away at home is far, far, far, better than one secured a few seconds away at all times in your vehicle. I mean that's why police officers leave their rifles at home instead of secured in their vehicles, right? A pistol is for concealment, where rifles are inconvenient and to fight your way to your rifle when you are unable to carry it. You can stay in the coffin retrieving whatever is under your back seat while I'm using it as cover fighting my way to my rifle or retreating to cover. My way is proven to be tactically correct, yours proven to be a death trap. But you do you.

The vehicle battery, not the key fob battery.

Right, but he was pointing out even manual key fobs with no buttons still have a battery inside and he's correct they do. I opened mine: Circuit board, chip, and a battery.

Nobody said to leave the rifle under the seat unsecured? Obviously it needs to be locked up when unattended. There are several lockable drawer options. Your floor cubby is no more secured than sitting under the seat as the unlock button works even if a thief smashes a window. That wouldn't even qualify as locked storage in many states. Nobody said to try to get in a shootout from the front seat either. In your zombie apocalypse I'd argue it is tactically superior to getting out though? And vehicles make terrible cover, especially the back half where you suggest keeping an AR pistol. I'm not storing anything I may NEED in the cubby as not only do batteries fail but so do electric actuators.
