So how does one lock the tailgate when the battery is dead?

I have the same issue. I have disconnect both bateries to unplug airbar and Im able to manually lock doors but I do not know how to lock the tailgate when both batteries are disconnected.

If the battery dies while parked. Your jeep is locked and your battery jumper/ tools are in the trunk cubby, how would one open the gate without a manual key hole?

My wife’s 2020 Sahara has a manual tailgate lock. My 2021 Rubicon does not. Weird, but not something I consider an “issue.”

Open the door with key and climb to the rear seat, fold them down and you are in...

If you're this concerned put the jump box under the seat? Get someone to jump you? Call AAA? If it was parked and locked odds are is not some life and death situation it fix a dead battery. Sure we can dream up scenarios where it would matter but in reality it will likely never be anywhere issue.

The dead battery, jump box under the floor cubby, no keyhole in the tailgate, no access to help, jumper cables, tow, etc emergency situation? Odds are better you have a cam failure and can't drive the damn Jeep anyway.
