Have you tried shopping out of state? There are dealers that will help you find what you're looking for and ship it almost anywhere. I know there's a dealer that has been previously mentioned on this forum by other members located in South Texas somewhere, but I can't recall the name. Maybe someone else knows and can chime in.
Yeah. This is an out of state dealer. I know folks mentioned Dan Cummings, Gumpton and I believe one out of CA Tuttle maybe? But yeah, I’d be happy to check out anyone that others have had good experience with

Love my diesel. Just don’t buy one that Tredsdert owned.
Thankfully I still own mine. No intention of ever selling it.

To OP, The 3.0 EcoDiesels are great vehicles. They're just not for everybody. If you're doing short hops all day, not the vehicle for you. If you're doing some short hops alongside longer drives, you should be fine. However the ideal situation for owning the 3.0 is that the majority of your drives are long distance, ie 20 mi or further.

Reason being the soot in your engine is going to be the number one thing that will kill your Jeep. So long as you're properly burning off the soot, you should be fine. When you do those short hops, your 3.0 doesn't have the chance to burn off the soot, and you end up killing your engine quicker.

If you do get an EcoDiesel Wrangler, send me a DM. I'll get you all hooked up with a tuner to give you a very nice stage 1 tune, and at a good price too.

It looks completely stock because it is completely stock, and anyone would be hard-pressed to prove otherwise. ;)

What the benefit to a stage 1 tune? Any improvements to power or fuel econ? Or is it just a digital delete of the dpf system?

Stage 1 tunes can vary. Anything from getting more power or economy out of the engine, all the way over to disabling the EGR and/or DEF. Though disabling the EGR and/or DEF is not requirement of a stage 1 tune.

The stage 2 tune is where the DEF EGR SCR DPF are all deleted and the vehicle goes back to pre-2008.

You'd be shocked how many states don't do emission testing on diesel vehicles both commercial and non-commercial.

As to the benefits, if you're just doing a tune, I guess power or economy are two obvious choices. If you're doing the more fun illegal stuff, the benefits are much better for your vehicle. Just disabling the EGR will save your vehicle from choking on its own exhaust gas. Think about eating your poop, is it good for you? Probably not, is it bad for you? Maybe, but you'll probably survive. Same thing with modern diesel engines. As for disabling the DEF, I don't really see what that does other than saves you a couple bucks every few weeks. Same thing with the DPF and SCR, save you about 10 grand down the road when they end up needing to be replaced.

As for the legality of them, they're all super illegal right now, everything except for tuning your engine. The second you start messing with your emission systems, you're playing with fire. However at the same time, that fire will save your vehicle and your wallet a whole lot of trouble down the road! ?‍♂

Does Texas do emissions testing?

I'm pretty familiar with diesel engines, I've been driving them since 2013, both for work and personal vehicles. I've just never messed with tuning or deletions. I know it's "illegal" and really couldn't care less what the government or tree huggers have to say about it. Personally, I hate these SCR, EGR and DPF systems. I think it's just another method of making money off us by adding pointless shit to a vehicle because our emissions laws have been so fucked since the Chicken Tax law back under President LBJ. That's a whole other rant.

I don't really mind the $10 of DEF I have to put in the tank every 5-8k mi. What really bugs me is how it handicaps the motors efficiency and is so damn expensive to fix.

If mine weren't under warranty, I'd be super happy to delete the whole thing right now and be done with it.

Year later I’m back at it…close to pulling trigger on either a used 21/22 eco diesel Willys or 24 Willys with 2.0. I’m leaning toward the diesel just waiting to see if they will certify it. I know they come 5/100k but with CPO I get 2 more years piece of mind. I do love the torque and range of the diesel but the 24 Willys package has some decent upgrades as well. Because I’m limiting my color to sarge, new is no longer an option.

I had a 2021 sarge ecodiesel, loved it to death, but rolled it at Moab.
Immediately got another ecodiesel.
I got this one with more miles on it (50k), but seeing that it had a clean service record, I wasn't worried.
My uncle, who owns a diesel shop, said to do my oil changes and fuel filter changes early, use fuel additives (American diesel fuel is dryer than other places), and keep up on maintenece.
It's not like it's way more expensive maintenece than a gas engine, whatever the difference it costs, is WELL worth it!
I just can't go back to a normal engine after having the diesel wrangler, maybe a straight 6 or V8 could change my mind, but not a 4 banger or the underwhelming 3.6.

Yeah I'm in Ca and hate that I can't delete here.

I agree. Once I drove the diesel I loved it. I just need to pull the trigger already. Anyone I speak to who’s had one generally is pretty positive about their experience.

I had a '21 JTRD and I was very pleased with it. I had the pump replaced under warranty, but they are installing another pump that will fail in the future. It was at this point that I decided to sell my JTRD and get a 392 Wrangler. I did a bed trim on the Gladiator, put the spare in the bed, and added an Evo High N'Tight Bumper so I could crawl with it. I would have kept it if it was not for the fuel pump issue. Next time it fails it would likely have been on my dime.

The fuel pump issue, was that something that was recalled or was it on a case by case basis. I want to be sure as I buy pre owned that I’m aware of what may be covered provided it was not a recall. Would suck to finally grab my first Jeep only to have to replace a fuel pump on my dime. Love the truck by the way.

The high pressure fuel pump was part of a recall. It also caused a stop sale for awhile.
I had both mine done and I am not worried about them causing issues anymore. My dealer put a sticker on the underside of the hood with the recall campaign. Plus a B5 sticker on the inside of the fuel filler door.
