Pre owned diesel?

Had a 2014 Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel for nine years. Absolutely fabulous and loved it. The EPA has ruined this engine. Finally sold it with 70k miles. I was starting to get a little nervous about keeping it once the mileage gets up there. Changed oil every 5000ml (it gets super dirty with the emissions crap) and ran the GDE tune for most of it's life. If you can afford the horrendous prices on parts and repairs, go for it. Agree, it's the perfect engine for a Wrangler, but do your due diligence!

The diesel is the best engine ever in a Jeep used for Jeep purposes. Only caveat is if you plan to use it for short trips like shopping or back and forth short distances to work. Wrong tool for that job. Absolutely the best tool for doing Jeep stuff.

Good to know. Something to definitely keep in mind. I’m also going to test drive the 2.0. I figure if I can’t find a pre owned eco diesel in my desired configuration, maybe I’ll explore the 2.0. From those that have had both it appears a good majority like the 2.0 vs the 3.6. Still hoping for the diesel though

ok now this could be a potential deal breaker. I have a work car so my JL will only be a weekend and mostly local around town vehicle. Living where I do I’m surrounded by hills but it sounds like the diesel needs to be driven more than what I’ll be using it for?

So I don't think Cpo is necessary as long as the remainder of factory warranty is still active.(you can call Jeep with vin# they will tell you how much warranty is left on that Jeep) Also a ecodiesel has a 5 year 100k mile drivetrain warranty!! From my experience as a dealer that goes to auctions several times a week the diesels I seen have few problems. Don't listen to the haters that say value is going to drop....The value once all the diesels are gone will go back up I've watched it happen on other Jeep diesel products once production has stopped awhile. There are very few out there getting traded in if you see one at an auction atleast in my area if its nice it will bring a premium already. Good luck

I have a 21JLURD and have used it offroad for rock crawling, mostly in Moab. Unfortunately I don't get to go rock crawling often (~2 times year) and I mostly drive it around town on errands. I have over 33K miles now on 37" BFG KO2 tires with a 2.5 inch lift and Rock Slide rails with steps with armor. I just got a deal on the VERY specific diesel oil at Walmart, then bought a MOPAR oil filter and a fuel filter at Amazon and will be doing my fourth oil change in a few weeks plus fuel filter. Will be under $100 bucks all in. Note, I have found DEF at truck stops much cheaper and easier to fill my DEF tank than the store bought jugs. Except for my batteries being changed out & fuel pump recall, both under warrantee, I have had no issues, that's especially true of the engine & drive train. My only complaint is I wish it had a bigger fuel tank because on trips to the middle of nowhere sometimes diesel is hard to find. I get about 20 MPG with a lead foot and 37's and live in Texas where 80 is normal on the freeway. I love being able to chug up incredibly steep rocks with locked diffs. I am very happy with my Jeep. I am probably one of those people that you don't really hear from because there have been very few problems. I do have an extended warrantee mainly because I am worried about the electronics at over 80K miles. Electronics don't appreciate being banged around.

as far as I know, one of the main problems with modern diesel engines (more with their emissions equipment actually) is that they need more time to get up to operating temps/run at operating temps for longer to burn all the crap that gets trapped in the EGR valve in the emissions system.

someone with more knowledge of this may be able to chime in and confirm/correct hopefully!

2021 ecodiesel - 27k miles - It's a fantastic Jeep (my third Jeep, and this one I will keep for as long as possible)
Torque, towing is a breeze, 24mpg (more if you baby it), a nice truck/tractor like rumble to the engine giving good Jeep vibes...

That is my understanding as well. It is not the diesel engine. It is what is required of the manufacturer to meet the government requirements. But it is still the best power configuration ever on a Jeep.

Newb here. Getting close to finally pulling the trigger on my first Jeep. Provided I don’t go gladiator, I’m set on a used Willys 2020-2023 is realistically what’s in my budget. That said, I’m seeing pretty good deals for low mileage 3.0s and I understand the extra maintenance costs associated with diesel, but I’m more concerned about the ongoing issues folks have had. The few I’m eyeing are CPO and assuming recalls have been addressed do I pull it or try to find a gas powered? Sorry, I’m sure these type of questions have been beaten to death

I can’t comment on diesels. I drove diesel vans at work for years. But I bought a Jeep because it fit my budget. Not a good move. Still had to trade out of it and get a more pricey model that I should have bought to start with. Make sure it fits your needs and wants or it not a good deal

Given I’m still torn between a Wrangler and Gladiator I also drove a 2.0 to see what that felt like. That little SOB has some torque as well but a bit of an odd sound at times. Decisions…decisions
