Anyone running the Rancho RS7MT shocks or have opinions on them?

Rancho refreshed their 7000 series a couple years ago with these. They're mono tube and nitrogen charged like Bilstein 5100's and Fox 2.0, but priced well below those. Built cheaper but half the price. Seems like they could be a hidden gem for price to performance.

I have put about 7000 miles on my RS7 -MT’s and I really like them. They are on a Rubicon with a 2.5” Rock Krawler lift and I feel like the ride is great they seem to do good off road

I decided to try out the Rancho RS7MT shocks. I purchased a set and installed them this morning. They feel almost identical to the Fox 2.0's that I took off. I switched because one of the Fox 2.0's started to leak at 40k miles. The Rancho RS7MT's feel just a bit softer around town. That's a good thing. They seem to soak up bumps and dips better. Less jarring. The difference is very little though. What a great shock for the price. I paid around $800 for the Fox 2.0's that only lasted 40k miles. The Rancho RS7MT's I got on a deal for $250 with a lifetime warranty. More driving is needed, but I like them so far.

They're on my short list when I need to replace the shocks. My son has the RS7MT front stabilizer on his JLUR and it's a nice part for the price.

I still like them. They were a great value and they're more comfortable around town than the Fox 2.0's I had before. Very similar feel to the Fox 2.0; just softer. You can tell when driving over cracks in the road. You feel them less. Then when hitting a big dip on the highway you sink into it a little more and float out of it softer. Definitely not as harsh and firm compared to the Fox 2.0. I haven't used them off road yet.

I bought them from Amazon. A set of 4 for a stock height JL was only $250. Looks like the price went up just a little now though. Link: https://a.co/d/4YDuosY

These shocks sound like a good deal. I was happy with Rancho's 5000X shocks on my LJ.

I was looking at some other shocks and they had, what looked like, some spacer on the upper mount to keep the shock aligned with the lower mount.

Do the RS7 MT Rancho's come with this offset or do you reuse something from the OEM shock?

I just had these installed along with a small 3/4" spacer lift. The shock part numbers are dependant on your lift for length. They have the typical lower thru bolt eye and a upper thru bolt tee, identical to the factory shocks. So far so good, decent ride with control. I will be doing a severely washboarded road soon. The factory shocks, at 65k miles were fading on this road after about 5 miles.

Jeffy,

Would you say the firmness is close to stock, more firm than stock? Or how would you rate the firmness on a scale of 1 -10? 1 being the least firm, 10 being the most.

Very close to stock. Stock wasn't bad, dealt with moderate bumps at low speed well. They just faded early. I'll know more in the next couple of weeks. For reference, I've had 5000s and 9000s on a couple of different Ford trucks which have a similar unsprung weight up front. These should be friendlier than say Bilstein. My application is Forest roads for miles and light to moderate 4wheeling. I'm an old guy with arthritis. Not interested in getting beat up, but won't have a wallowing cow suspension.

I completely understand, I have arthritis in my spine. I look worse than butler Lurch. I have a Sport with Rubi springs and shocks. This set up has been great for me but I would not want to go much firmer than them. My Sport springs and shocks were great on the interstate but too soft & spongy for off-road IMO. I installed Ranchos on my TJ. They were a good shock.

I think you would do well with the RS7s. My initial thought is they are slightly more compliant than 5000s. The high fluid temperature range is a key point for me giving my location. Warehouse inventory is low on some part numbers. Rancho needs to get back to work! I had to get 2 rears from Amazon, 1 front from Amazon and 1 front from O'reily. Fortunately with ship to store no freight, veteran discount, price was very close.

Update. A week now. I did a/the Fire Control Road Tuesday. 12+ miles of washboards, ruts, rocks, off camber and recent snow. Falken AT3 tires. I am impressed with these shocks, especial with the washboards. Given the weather and the twisty turny road I couldn't go too fast, max about 35 MPH. The shocks were a little lumpy slow, actually controlled the washboards at a medium speed, say 20 +/-, and were a bit rough faster. Like waves the pitch or frequency of those washboards can change, adjust accordingly. Sudden dips, rocks, or bumps were moderated well. 3/4" Coil spacers.

I'm glad you like them. The shocks I want for a 2" lift are out of stock. Rock Auto has the older version of the RS7MT (silver body) on close out. I picked up all 4 for $133 to my door. Because they're close out, they only have a 30 day warranty, and not the lifetime. I'm hoping for this price, that I will be pleasantly surprised.
