While taking the doors off I accidentally closed the door while the stop was unscrewed. The weight of the door closing sucked in the mechanism. How is this fixed or should I just take it in.

The same thing happened to me today. I'll be taking it by the dealer on Tuesday unless someone has a fix for this.

attach something to the bolt plate for the door stop to pull it out. You will have to pull hard.

Aight. Maybe I'll stick a screwdriver or something through there and just yank on it. Thanks

Do you have any pictures to share so we know what exactly happened? Sounds like a bum deal.

I heard its supposed to be a feature. If you dont want to use them you can push them into the door. I was able to get a bolt thru and screw it into the frame enough and open the door to pull mine out again.

I just popped mine back out with pliers.

In reality, I might get rid of them. They are annoying and don't belong on a Wrangler.

Geeez, I feel just the opposite. I have had many Wrangler's... I think having the check straps on the JL is a nice addition.

If you know about the check strap and how it can recede, you do not have the issue that the OP has.

Great information guys. Thanks. Looks to be an easy enough fix. I'll attempt this later and get some pics

@Jlb1177

Well easy ... but will take a lot of real pull to get that door strap out. IF you can't get it, go to hardware store and get a longer bolt to use temporarily to aid in getting the regular bolt in place.

Just as an update I fixed this by taking a long screw driver, putting it through the door stop bolt hole and leveraging against the door which I padded with a small towel. It came right out without much force. Thanks everyone for the help
