New AEV rear diff skid

at $389 I’m not sure how much I’d trust a 4mm stamped steel plate out on the trail.
Interesting idea for design but I could see that front element getting bashed up and into the driveshaft/cv connection point.

I found out about this last week before it was announced. It doesn't look extremely durable, but at least it'll fit over the AEV covers (unlike NVM's rear diff skid, which had to be hacked to hell to fit).

I still think the RC skid is the best bang for the buck out there. That plate is built damn near bomb proof. Hard to see something like this being on the same level. I would’ve preferred to use the RC skid on the front but for some reason it supposedly doesn’t fit the diesel so I went with the Rancho glider instead. I’ve seen that thing take a boulder at some speed and shrug it off like nothing happened so it’s good enough in my book.

Quite a bit cheaper than Next Venture Motorsports' skid, but I'm thinking that NVM's is much more durable.

Keeping in mind that it’s bare metal at that price, it’s definitely the better choice compared to AEV for the same kind of money.

Unfortunately it doesn't really fit over the AEV diff covers. The shop had to grind away at it for at least half an hour before it fit.

I guess I've never really understood axle skid plates, the axle made of steel other than loosing some paint dragging over rocks isn't really effected much. Heck my WJ has a aluminum center section D44A rear axle and is doing fine even slowly being shaved down from rocks. They just really seem to reduce some ground clearance more than anything.

They just really seem to reduce some ground clearance more than anything.

My big concern is protecting the diff and the drain plug. Bashing those up just seems like an easy way to burn money on repairs. Losing a little bit of clearance for some peace of mind is an easy decision for me.

I must be the outlier. I have AEV diff covers and both Next Venture diff skids were literally bolt-on mods.

Got these real beef at much cheaper cost, 3/8" (.375") plate steel cap is bent 8 ways and welded to a 1/2" ring, making it virtually indestructible. No need for expensive skids, and these diff covers also serve as axle truss to some extend in terms of making it stronger.
