Anyone have experience going from a load D 37 to load C 38 Ridge grappler? Any noticeable difference in ride etc?

I've never noticed too much going from D to C. It's only a half inch more tire so you won't get much cushion from that. The ride is generally a little better but I'm not sure if you asked me blindfolded I could tell the difference.

Thanks, that’s what I was wondering if it is worth the price difference

I never ran the 37s but I have the 38s and am real happy with them. Real smooth on the road with the C load range and they have real nice grip offroad. I just went wheeling in pretty wet conditions this past weekend and I was very impressed with the traction. As for the size, believe it or not that extra half inch of clearance does matter. I don’t rub my diffs on certain obstacles that those with 37s do.

Damn near the same weight, so they're probably a little thinner on the sidewall to allow for more.

With a 37, you already have plenty of sidewall for cushioning, so I'd personally almost write that off, and you'll likely run similiar pressures since the foot prints are so close.

If anything, you may see less stability on road with the 38 since the sidewall may allow more side to side movement.

At $100 each for the inch, definitely makes the decision to go up higher a tough one. That said, if you think you'll regret not going 38, pull the trigger now, way more expensive to swap them out later.

I don't have experience with nitto tires, so I can't speak about them specifically.

I switched from C-rated 38x13.5 Milestar Patagonias to D-rated 40x13.5 Patagonias. I felt the added firmness just driving out of the tire shop parking lot, which is along a stretch of road that is anything but smooth. It wasn't a big change, just a noticeable one. I was also specifically feeling for it because I was curious if the larger sidewall cushion would offset the increased load rating.

I have to agree with the above statement, about going with the 38's. In general, there's much less chance of regret when going with the larger of 2 sizes. The pain of spending the extra $100 per tire will be short lived, because you'll recoup that money in short order. On the other hand, the pain of regret for not going with the larger tire will last as long as the tires themselves.

So, I like Mike's advice, just go 40s.

I honestly think 38 is about the perfect size to get a bigger tire and retain more reliability of the stock axles. 40s on stock axles gives me so much more anxiety off-road.

You made a great choice imo ?

Hi there!

I have a 2022 JLUXR Jeep Wrangler Willy’s and was thinking about doing a 3.5” Metalcloak lift with 38” Ridge grapplers as well. What looks to be essentially this same set but I don’t have the 392. It is my daily and if anything I do light trails but curious how this handles overall?

I was debating between the 39” BFG KO2 A/T and the 38” Ridge grapplers. I was also wondering if you were still running the 4.56 axels? Any help or insight you can provide would be super helpful! Thank you!

I’ve been super happy with the 38” RGs. They are quiet and smooth on road and have good traction offroad, especially for a non-MT tire.

I’m still running the stock 4.56 gears that come with the XR package. While still plenty of power, there was a noticeable difference in resposiveness when going from the stock 35” tire to the 38” tire. I feel it could use a slightly taller gear, however I’m eventually going to go up to UD60s so I’m not going to regear and will just deal with it for now.

I also had to trim about an inch and a half off of the rear pinch seam on the body to keep the tires from rubbing at full flex off-road (see pics below). Not a big deal. That’s with the 3.5” Clayton lift.

The kit comes with 2” addl bump. I am running 4” Metalcloak adjustable bump stops.
Wow. Surprised you needed to trim with a 4" bump.
