I feel ya and maybe we'll see you back around if/when the JM gets that turbo inline 6.

Never understood how a heavy-ass vehicle like this doesn't have a reasonably-priced gasoline option with something closer to 400HP/TQ. When I was cross-shopping my 2-door Wrangler, I was so tempted to get a 2-door Bronco with the 2.7L (330/415) or the 2-door Defender with the P400 (395/406) just for the power increase without over-the-top pricing.

Not everyone needs a 392 or wants to pay over $90k just to have a more appropriate powertrain.

Best of luck dude! :)

So did you get rid of The Grinch? Or going to? You said "likely" a Bronco would be next, but didn't make it sound like a sure thing yet. Kinda, maybe, sorta?

It's hard to stay away from (real) Jeeps too long. Maybe we'll see ya on the JM Forum in a couple of years.

The Grinch is sold. Bronco is happening--as it is the end of the model year, the availability is lacking (it was not super to begin with) and finding what I wanted at a dealer who does not charge ADM was challenging to say the least. I found one and am working the details.

If the i6 was available in a new Jeep, I would have grabbed one, but at the same time, my wife has bionic knees and off-roading is not what it once was for us. A Bronco will do all that I need/want to at this point--I can always upgrade it.

285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque which was subsequently reduced to 225 horsepower and 205 pound-feet of torque
Wait, what? What is that in reference to?

The loss of HP and TQ on a normally aspirated engine due to altitude. 3% for every 1,000 feet:

https://www.garrettmotion.com/news/newsroom/article/how-to-turbocharge-at-elevation-counteracting-lower-air-density/#:~:text=As a general rule, a,engine will make 70 horsepower.

The only way to compensate is to feed it more air and the only way to do that is with more pressure (boost).
Ah I gotcha, that makes sense. I thought maybe Jeep installed a software update that de-tuned your engine or something.

Good luck on your next venture!

Broncos have their own issues still being worked out. Check out the bronco forums before you decide. And Land Rovers are one of the worst vehicles on the road. Avoid them like the plague. Good luck. Maybe wait for the Scout to come back out. I'm sure that will have its own list of growing pains though.

We considered a Bronco but every one we know or have seen on Jeep shows, that went from a Jeep to a Bronco ends up back in a Jeep. Plus they seem a little big for the trail.

I think the Rubicon will be perfect for us. It's my wife's DD and she drives about 16 miles a week and we take it on Wheeling trips.

The low power hasn't bothered me and seems fine around town and on the highway. Maybe it's the fact that I know that I can just jump in the TRX if I want power.

I'm a member of the Bronco sister forum to this one. All have issues in one way or another--just part of the "new world" we are in.

I've been pretty adept at overcoming the Wrangler obstacles, just means a new challenge on the Bronco.

Well, I cannot argue the math...3% loss per 1K increase in altitude and the 3.6L does not have 21% of anything to spare....but agree--aside from the 3.0TD and the 392, Jeep is WOEFULLY lacking in the power department and always has...
You'll still lose 1% power 1k feet with forced induction, but a 7% loss is much less noticeable than 21%. I'm not sure I'd argue adding a supercharger to the 3.6L would make it less long term reliable than a Ford, but I owned 2 of their worst in that department so I'm admittedly biased. If you owned a 6.0L powerstroke and had every one of the common problems before 100k miles you'd probably hold a grudge too. That and I don't like knockoffs and anyone who looks at the bronco, especially from the back, and doesn't think they copied someone's homework is kidding themselves. And it's real hard to fit 39s on the bronco and get it to steer reliably.

As I said before every manufacturer has its issues. Ford struggled with the 6.0 and the 6.4, but the 6.7 is knocking it out of the park I had one, had no issues, and it could pull the world on wheels if you could hitch it up.

The 2.7TT starts with much more power than the 3.6L so it's losses are far less noticeable especially with the twin turbo.

Moot point for me now...

Well…it has been a helluva ride and I never thought I would do it, but I said goodbye to the Grinch today. Been a while in coming and I contemplated a few things to prevent it, such as adding a supercharger or a turbocharger, but those would only serve to reduce the long-term reliability of the vehicle and make it even more difficult to maintain. In the end, 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque which was subsequently reduced to 225 horsepower and 205 pound-feet of torque is no match for 7K+ altitude and 5700# empty.

I regeared from 4.88 to 5.13 and it helped for a while, but living at altitude is vastly different than blasting in and out for a week or so—especially when your Jeep is a daily driver. It can really grind on you over time from the dragging gear shifts to the overall lack of power. Combine that with the inherent weaknesses within the 3.6L platform and it pushed my decision to sell it.

I will still hang out on the forum from time to time and share whatever/whenever I can, but PM me if something is needed. I have learned so much on this forum in the time I have been here and hopefully have been able to share reciprocally. I'll be posting some of the take-off parts over the next week or so. Ping me if interested.

I would also be remiss if I did not call out several people not only helping me but for knowledge sharing over the past 4 years and 72,890 miles:

Thanks for everything guys! I’ll see you on the trails…
Damn yo
I have stock 3.45 gears on 33's with a manual and do 70ish miles round trip from Centennial to Broomfield and back everyday.
Still love it.
Well, except for the other vehicles on the road.

I still don't understand how people don't know how to merge in this state.
