So the dash was constantly telling me that the auto stop/start system was charging the battery and not operational (I don't use it anyway, im just OCD as hell). After research/review, I decided to go ahead and swap both out for a premium setup.

First of all, this was amazingly simple, only requiring the following;

- 10mm socket
- 10" extension
- #6 torx socket (to remove/reinstall the factory aux battery posts)
- Jet dielectric coating

The entire process took about 25 minutes, with only two hands.

I replaced the factory battery with an Odyssey ODP AGM94R H7 L4 ( https://www.odysseybatteries.com/odyssey/ps94r_850.html ), and the auxiliary battery with an Interstate MTX-AUX12 Premium ( https://www.interstatebatteries.com/products/mtx-aux12/2021-jeep-wrangler-v630l ).

Absolute breeze with the only snag being the pesky plastic clip on the positive main terminal, and a medium flat head screw driver made for an easy release. I definitely recommend this setup as replacements, as they blow the factory specs out of the water. $500 total investment, in my driveway.

It serves no useful purpose. I broke mine off intentionally. Makes maintenance a lot easier.
For one's own JL/JT, to bastardize something on the vehicle is the owner's preference.. Many prefer not to bastardize unless there is no other way.

Working on someone else's JL /JT, I would never bastardize unless getting the OK from the owner.
Also when I instruct/teach other's, I encourage the right way.

That clip, if you know it is there.... how it clips... takes all of 2 seconds to deal with.... to release.

Says the guy that bypassed his Aux battery before most anyone.. :CWL:

The clip serves no useful purpose in a mixed use Jeep, I put it back on only because it didn't break when removed. I think most of them do get brittle and break very easily.

Id still say delete the aux, seeing how easy it is to do and the plethora of problems they create.

I agree with others: seriously consider removing that extra eight pounds of weight.
8lbs of weight, tons of needless issues.
Actually, I think for most JL/JT owner's (not all) it is actually best ... makes more sense.... to leave that "8lbs of weight.. ... ..." in place... not to delete the Aux battery and to just bypass the Aux battery.

To each his own says this guy that dealt with his JL's Aux battery way before it was lets call it, fashionable to do so... before other's.

Why would you leave it in place? Thinking that a dealership would freak if it's gone? It's simple to remove.

Question: Did you have any issue with the extra length of the AGM94R vs the factory battery? According to Odyssey, the replacement battery should be a AGM48. Total length difference looks to be about 1.5", with the 94R being the longer. With the ECM being there, it seems like it could be tight. Thanks....

I think the only issue was you cannot use that factory battery cover

I replaced both my batteries just a couple months ago both with DieHards. I still get battery charging messages for ESS almost on a daily basis. I don't worry about it anymore because there is no fixing the chaos Jeep created in this charging system. I never use it anyway, and I monitor the batteries constantly with the scan gauge 3. It does concern me to see it dip below 12v occasionally while driving, but I think that is normal behavior so long as it doesn't stay in that range long.

Fit perfect, and so did the battery cover. It actually wasn't tight at all, they leave extra room in the tray for "sliding the battery into place".
