Hello all! As the title states I’m looking to buy my first Jeep. I’m stuck choosing between a Sahara and Rubicon (Im sure this is a popular question that’s been answered a ton so I’m sorry for asking). It will be my daily driver year round. We get quite a bit of snow where I live and I plan on taking it on some trails (especially through wooded areas) for camping, fishing, etc. I may also be moving in the next few years down by the coast and was wondering which one would be the best for snow, trails, and sand. I’m not sure if I’ll ever go rock crawling but who knows one day I might. Any help choosing would be much appreciated! Thanks.

I’m a first time jeep owner myself.. went with the rubicon..

honestly getting a rubicon isn’t much more than a Sahara.. really such a small gap..

I also didn’t feel any difference in ride quality when test driving.. if I was debating On a model other than the rubicon I would go sport s..

If I’m not getting all the bells and whistles I better see a big savings and u simply don’t by purchasing a Sahara.. most of the ones in my area stickered for more than what I talked them down on my rubi

I went with the Sahara and it's a everyday
Driver. I didn't need the big gears or lockers . Not doing any rock crawling and a limited slip works fine for me. I like the finish of the Sahara. I did install the 2 1/2 rough country lift, and put on Rubicon wheels and tires.

I went all out Rubicon. I won’t need to do much to it down the road as I will be fine with mostly stock high end! Just stuck in the waiting line for a new build is all!

The main difference between the two is the axles and transfer case set up. If you ever water to lift yours and go 37s make sure to go Rubicon from the get go!

I knew I was going to put a lift with larger tires on mine so the 4:10 gears, lockers, and better fender setup made it a no-brainer for me

Frankly, if you aren’t out crawling, the Sahara works. I have had two and it works better as a daily driver.

That in mind, if you’ve never owned a Jeep, you might consider a sport. Save some cash and you don’t feel bad about replacing parts to make it your own. It’s what i did at the beginning. I learned how they drove, what I really wanted to customize, and saved the need to debate if I wanted something factory or aftermarket. On the sports- it’s all open field to replace.

That’s just my 2 cents. Hope it helps.

You need merely a 2 door Rubicon for everything ; 4 doors gives you nothing additional .

Also , hopefully they fixed some of the glitches which came with the first manufactured 4 doors .

The Rubicon's better for off-roading but it sounds like yours will be light, maybe with rock trails in the future.

Both are great with on road traction and will likely be more than enough for bad weather, but again the Rubicon excels.

Factors to consider would be the worth to you of the additional cost of the Rubicon, and the extent to which you might use the rig for other things like as a daily driver and/or family mover.

Wrangler's keep their value great, but make no mistake, except rare and or super customized ones, they are a depreciating asset, as are 99% of all vehicles, even if they depreciate slower, as are many of the things you may add to it pre and post purchase.

On the other hand, life is short, and you can't take your money "with you to the other side."

Only you can know your balance. All I can do is provide you with the factors reasonable people consider.

I own a Sahara and don't plan to do much off-roading, but that's me. My hat's off to those that turn them into beasts if that's what makes them happy.

It sounds like the Sahara will be more than capable enough for your needs. You could also do everything you need with the Sport. There aren't many people who actually need a Rubicon, but if you ever need any of its features the extra price is worth it. To me the Rubicon looks better and I like having more capability than I plan on needing. My JK was just a sport and it handled everything except that one time I could have used slightly more ground clearance. Luckily a truck with a rope was all I needed to continue on.

Agree that a Sport is more than adequate , and significantly less expensive . However , if the choice is limited to Sahara and Rubicon , as Sahara costs slightly less than a Rubicon , might as well go with the Rubicon , for slightly more money . In fact , I'll bet one can get a marked-down Rubicon for less than a listed Sahara . Most important consideration is to get a 2 door .

As you own a GMC 2500 , perhaps you used your own truck with a rope to pull out your own Sport , lol .

If the question was “Should i get a Rubicon or save my grandmother and her 3 puppies from a burning building? “ there would be like 17 responses all telling you to buy a Rubicon.
