Depends on what you expect the 392 to do that you dont have already? I recommend doing a thorough test drive of a 392 (I drove one for about 35 minutes) wait a few days and see if it still appeals to you. Also, consider a lease making it easier to get out of it if you change your mind in a few years.

I wanted more TQ then the 3.6 had, and ended up getting the diesel which is really fun to drive everyday without having to worry about the mileage.

Just remember that your JLUR is a true 4 wheel drive. The 392 is all wheel drive. They made some significant changes to the drive train to accommodate the additional horsepower. Not necessarily bad, just different. They also made some significant changes to the suspension. Again, not bad, just different. Maybe better, maybe not.But you should be aware that it is not the same.

One of the greatest movies to this day! Gene Wilder was meant for the role.

The Tim Burton/Johnny Depp abomination should be banned. I felt like it was a step away from him offering kids candy out of a windowless ice cream van ... the character just so creepy.

I’m used to driving older vehicles, (Jeeps and 12 valve diesels). I had my hotrod days many years ago. However since I bought this new 2.0 Turbo JL I’ve raced a Chevy 1500 from a stop light and some kid in a hotrod Honda trying to crowd me on a stop light two lane into one lane scenario. Pulled away from both.

I never get pulled over, but since I bought the 2.0Turbo, I’ve been pulled over 3 times for speeding.

If I bought a 392, I fear I’d be locked up and my Jeep impounded. 392? Ummm…. No thanks. As Clint Eastwood said “A man has to know his limitations”

Rubicon 392 has the full-time 4WD transfer case with the 2WD mode removed.

It has 4H Auto (full-time), plus selectable part-time 4H and 4L modes that lock front-and-rear diffs at the center, like all Wranglers do, and 4:1 reduction, like all Rubicons do.

I'll offer another alternative.
I have the '22 Rubi 4xe. It's actually rated at 375 HP (both motors combined) and it's the second fastest only to the 392. It'll turn 0-60 in the low-5sec range and you'll be pressed in the seat. Off-road, torque is pretty strong too. But here's the fun part. Around town, I use the electric mode (rather than hybrid) to run errands. Then come home and charge it. Doing that I can typically go about 3 weeks between gas station stops. And I drive it every day. Averaging about 33 MPG. BUT, if I catch one of those rice burner's at a stoplight, I'll use the 2.0 + electric and just smoke em! People don't expect rock crawlers to be quick! On the road, I use the 2.0 , averaging like 22-24 mpg.

Now, I do also own a Challenger Hellcat Redeye (with 800 HP) and an '18 Charger Daytona 392, so I can get my V8 soul from those...That Cat sounds fantastic and an absolute hoot to drive as well. Still, I feel that the 4xe gives me the best of both worlds; being quick, not killing me on gas, and it's a Rubi.
Oh, and you can get the $7500 Fed rebate too (and add even more off from the dealer). Just something else to think about.

If a brand-new Rubicon isn't enough to make you happy, then a brand-new 392 won't make you happy, either. You will want the next, newest, gnarliest, fanciest, etc. in no time.. The sooner we learn to say "What I have is awesome, and I am happy," and break the cycle of "Okay, what now?!" well, the happier we will be.

I would have to take one wheeling in the back country before I could make that decision. Only you know exactly what your going to do with it.

If you have ample cash and the net worth to take the large depreciation hit and the fund cost of the upgrade…go for it. If you need to borrow money to make this happen I would challenge your thinking. Interest rates on auto loans have increased a lot…and needing to borrow money for expensive toys is a fool’s errand anyway….
