Front drivers side started making a weird chirp noise, not squeal, not howl, not a grind but a quick chirp upon pressing the brake pedal.

Took to dealer—caliper piston was leaking a small amount of fluid. With 8400 miles on the odometer.

I heard GCs were doing this too—I have a rubicon which I understand has the larger brakes from the factory—I wonder if it is the same caliper?

So the caliper was replaced.

A few weeks later, again, chirp. No leaking this time. So pads and rotors replaced both sides at front. Worked.

Chirp has not returned, yet, but it’s only been a few days.

Did you ever have this sound come back? I have a regular chirp that I hear when I press the brakes to slow down, but there is no evidence of a leak and no loss of brake performance. I don't like going to the dealer for silly diagnostics, and it seems I'm not the first to hear this problem. Do you have any additional insight to share?

I have the chirp too, sometimes I hear it when taking my foot off the brake after sitting at a light for a bit.

If the guide pins are lubricated, the next place to look would be the pad clips. The brake pad top/bottom ears slide back and forth in these clips. If they're not lubricated, it may cause a chirp or similar noise as you either apply the brakes or let off the pedal.

My brakes were squealing pretty bad within the first 5k miles. I found the guide pins to be lubricated, but the pad clips and backside of the pads were dry and appeared to have never been lubricated. There did appear to be a black coating on the pad clips, like some kind of dry lubrication coating, but it was mostly flaked off.

I cleaned the pad clips and back side of pads/shims with brake cleaner, then applied Sil-Glyde ( a disc brake lubricant) to those areas (lubricating the pad between the shim and backing plate) and have been noise free for the last 13k miles.

Anyone ever hear a noise my wife describes as a "whistling" sound when the brakes are applied? I havent checked it out myself yet.

Thanks

Curious if people on this thread got the chirp to stop. My lifted '18 JLUR with 32K miles recently started making this same noise...not a squeak. Definitely a chirp. Only thing that has changed is the weather got warm. Thx.

I have that too when letting off the brake when stopped in line at the coffee shop or at a light.

Mine started to chirp and just had it looked at today. According to my service department, the noise is coming from all four brakes. They said that they recommend to look into it further when they had more time to focus on that specific issue. Might take it back later in the week for them to do an in depth diag on it. Same thing though, chirping and won't go away.
